compression ratio and nitrous
im thinking of having a new motor built for my Z and was gonna go with 12:1 compression ratio is that too high to run a 150-200 shot on ?
Is this a street car? Why on earth would you want 12:1 compression on anything other than a race car? It doesn't give you much of a power advantage at all unless you are running an insanely large cam that bleeds off cylinder pressure.
I'm running 10:1 on aluminum heads and my engine will take nothing less than 92 octane. I can't imagine wanting to drive around on race gas all the time.
but to answer your question, i don't think your compression matters much at all for nitrous.

well
it was a thought and im hoping to have a high 12 - low 13 second on all motor then i wanna spray it and every one i talked to said mor compression = more power so i figured 12-1 would be optimal for street/strip

You will not get away with that much compression on pump gas.
You want to hit 12's NA? Go with the Vortec setup, with a nice cam/intake/headers and you are well into the 12's. If you have the bottom end to handle a 200 shot, I see no reason why you would not have the power potential for 10s, getting there, is an entirely different story.

Heh, buddy of mine is building an engine with 16:1 compression and is going to run a 500 shot fogger plus maybe a 250 plate. Race only of course

12:1 on 92 can be made to work with good tuning and if the engine is "just right," but it's not going to happen with a big bore/cheesy parts or without either a lot of knowledge or money. If you're talking about the 400… it's not going to happen without some serious compromises. The bore is too big.
High 12's/low 13's… get a stock L98, run decent headers, exhaust, cold air, 2800-3200rpm torque converter and anything between 3.23 and 3.73 gears. That should be good for high 12's with a good driver.

no
i wasnt talking about the 400 i have a 350 4bolt main from a 72 chevy pickup sitting at my friends shop that im gonna have built but wasnt sure about how high to take the compresson ratio when running nitrous and as far as gears go i already have the 4:11's sitting on the shelf i just have to get a rear to put them in i HATE my 9bolt and not paying a ton of $$$ for gears for it
