dont know anything about turbos realy. just wondering if a turbo setup would work with my 1407 edel carb? and cam? i know my heads will need to go. what about a single turbo thats fabricated into a y pipe right were it comes together? what size is a good size single turbo for a chevy 350? please dont laugh at my lack of turbo education im just curios..lol

Hi 92rs85berlintta,
As long you can pressurize the carb I believe that it can be done. Cam is a different story, some cams won't work ok with turbo application. If you have plenty of space in your car then you can build any turbo piping arrangement that you like, locating the turbo where is most efficient; at the back, where the muffler is...
Just kiding
You can locate the turbo(s) as close as possible to the exhaust, better if you do it using equal length pipes from each of the exhaust ports. My personal preference for a good turbo for single application on a 350, and that gives both street and strip performance is a 62-1. This turbo is designed to be very efficient at lower boost levels perfect for those people not looking for something too overkill, but still can deliver plenty of power if used for racing applications.

so say i wanted to put my turbo on my engine if i put the turbo right on the y pipe were they hook together so its a single setup then ran ducting back to a intercooler then down into the carb it would work(assuming i had a cam and good heads and that i could fabricate this setup)
what type of ducting do people use?
would it be a good idea to place it on the y pipe?
how do carbureted engines idle and drive with a turbo(reliability issues?)
whats the brand turbo that makes a 62-1?

You could mount it down at the y-pipe but it would be best to mount it on the exhaust manifold.
I thought about trying to do turbo my carbed 350. I think I would try getting the s10 headers and flipping one of them and welding a turbo flange to that.
Piping is usually standard 3'' exhaust piping that is mandrel bent.
If I can figure out what how you have to go about tuning I may attempt this project.

well wouldnt having a single turbo on only 1 header messup flow and backpressure and make it almost imposible to tune?

For very low boost levels it’s fine, say under about 6psi. Higher then that you’ll start breaking things.
FWIW, SAAB does it from the factory on some of it’s newer models.

. I would suggest going with a Holley DP for blowthrough, but if you really want to use your Edelbrock/Carter AFB there is a little info on modifying them here: http://www.vs57.com Thread
