Has anyone tire the turbo in the back yet?
I was just wondering if you liked it?

Here is my RMT:

Sorry it isn't an f-body, but I love my system. It has put my Cavalier up to speed woth a lot of V8 Mustangs and F-Bodies. It now has 180,500 miles on the stock engine (7,500 on the turbo system) and has run a best of 13.9 at 99mph!

You know Im still thinking about doing this with my 91S10

I have a 60/63 T3 layin aorund.

Im actually thinking of puting it up in the frame rail in the cat area though. little less pipeing to run.

I'm thinking the .60/.63 might be a little big?

If he has some slowing spools with the .42/.48s.... then again, he's running a 2.2.

Cara asked me about doing something neat with her car...this came to mind. .60/.63 might just work out on the 3.1 though maybe a .60/.48 would be better?

I actually have a 2.8 V6 in my Z24. The turbo has no problems producing 10psi at 3000rpm. In first gear, it doesn't reach full boost because the engine accelerates to redline before the turbo can catch up but as soon as the hammer is down in second, its all in.
Chris, what engine is in your S10?

BTW, wait until you see the S10 I'm working on right now. I'm building it for the guy that did the body work on my IROC (we swapped labor). We're installing an LT1, a T56 and of course we'll be building a custom single turbo system for it. You will get the piping for ceramic coating once we have it fabbed up.

In terms of turbo sizing for this sort of setup....

would a 3.1 V6 be better suited to the .42/.48 or a .60/.63? or posisbly a hybrid between the two?

If you map it out, the 60 trim T3 is as good a match as you can get as far as the compressor side goes (at 10psi boost). I would try the .63 tubine housing and if response is not as good as desired, install a .48 housing. If you want to keep the flow up, install a stage III wheel with the .48 turbine housing.

My guess is that the 60trim compressor coupled with a Stage III turbine wheel and .48 housing is going to be a great match for a RMT (remote mount turbo) on a 3.1V6.

how much of a difference does the remote mounting make for reading the compressor map? It would seem to make not too much of one.

You have cooler exhaust gasses at the end of the exhaust pipe. The cooller gasses uses less space so you will have a smaller exhaust volume driving the turbine. That is the reson for using a smaller turbine housing at the back.

The compressor side of the turbo still needs to be the same size.
