Approximate Weight Gain with twins

Turbos Just wondering how much weight a twin turbo system would tack onto the front end of the car. Let's say with large front mounted intercooler, and steel exhaust headers (not log style manifolds). All this plus wastegates, BOV's etc, how much would it tack on? Asking this because I'm wondering what's gonna be lighter to make ~1000-1200 hp, a twin hairdryer'ed small block, or a crazy big block with some extra help from nitrous.

Thanks
Tony

Transmission: 700R4, for now....
Hmm, that's a tough call, especially considering I never weighed each piece of pipe after it was cut and welded.... If I had to venture a guess I'd say 200 lbs. or less? Only a rough guess based on how much I remember individual parts weighing. We did a tubular K and control arms at the same time but after all that I didn't notice the car handling any different (aside from throttle induced oversteer.... at any speed up to 80 or so... ) Definitely doesn't feel nose heavy. But, like I said, don't hold me to it, I'm only guessing.

About how much power is the car making? and how's the T-56 holding up? Looks pretty sweet man!

Well, I know my Banks TT kit came in a box that weighed about 100 pounds. Add to this any custom fabbed exhaust plumbing and intercooler stuff which isn't included in the kit, then subtract existing parts that are removed such as headers, exhaust manifolds, etc.

Right now at 8psi of boost I'd say the car is in the mid 600's range at the flywheel. So far so good on the T56 but we havn't had a set of sticky tires on it yet either so we'll see.... Thanks for the compliments

My BBSDesigns street/strip TT kit weighs 30 lbs per side, that's with the headers, turbos (internal WG's), and downpipes, and I figure 5 lbs for all hardware and oil lines, so 65 lbs for that.
My 21x9x3 intercooler weighs 10 lbs, and the aluminum pipe setup I'm doing should weigh around 20 lbs with couplings, clamps, and two 1G DSM BOV's.
I'd say figure a good 100 lbs all said and done for a kit similar to mine, and a little bit more for a 1200 hp capable setup.

Like Willie said, subtract the weight of the stock manifolds or aftermarket headers too (though I'm not sure how much they weigh), and everything else coming off in favor of the setup, that helps. Also get aluminum heads and a fiberglass hood alond with lighter suspension stuff and you would still weigh less than stock.

I'd think a twin-turbo small block done right should still weigh less than a big block, but I dunno for sure.

Heh, gotta love light weight parts… my intercooler itself (30x12x3”) weighs 21#, I’d love to see what you’ve got that’s “1200 hp capable” that weighs 10#.

I figure that my setup will add a total of 70-100# for a big single and all of the related plumbing.

I’m not sure that twins will add up to less, a pair of T3’s gets pretty heavy, pretty fast, and the pluming for them ends up somewhat more complicated…

I said my intercooler weighs 10 lbs, and the whole setup would weigh more than my 100 lbs if it was capable of 1200hp (mine isn't).

You said your IC weighs 21 lbs, that got me thinking. I weighed mine again, and it's actually 14 lbs. The 10 lbs. was how much my Talon's IC weighs, which is the meduim one from an Isuzu NPR. Sorry for the mix up. I still think my whole setup will be around 100 lbs, minus the weight of stock manifolds (TBD), AIR crap (13 lbs), and all the other little stuff I get to remove.

As far as the T3's, the two turbos w/internal WG's, both headers, and both downpipes (not much to them) weigh 60 lbs. IC plumbing won't be too heavy with aluminum pipes, but would be a little lighter for a single.
