its the tire rubbing the inner fender. ive seen it happen many of times on less HP cars. what happens is the car squats down harder on the dyno than normal becuase it is strapped down.

look at the front of the rear wheelwell. you can see the smoke start there.

That is Chris's car its a SBC instead of the buick powerplant. He has caught some flack amoung the Buick guys for it but you can't argue with the results. I think(don't quote me) that it still has a stock style suspension or that might be one of his other cars I can't quiet remeber.

No, he IS spinning the tires, and claimed so in person on another board. And I've seen cars with as "little" as 600rwhp spinning tires on a dyno. I've personally sat on the trunk of a 91 Mustang w/a 101mm turbo 306 belonging to coworker with 3 other people, and a bunch of weight in the trunk to get it to stick. He got 1050 spinning, and 1270 with us on the back!

Have another close look at the video. The tire smoke starts and wraps around the MIDDLE of the tire. THAT is a wrinkle wall slick spinning ....not a fender or chassis rub.

I always wondered why people mount turbos like that, besides the obvious. Arn't you suppose to have a filter on it? I would be afraid that bugs and stuff would get inside and screw up the turbo.

if they would have spun, that car would have got on the revlimiter in a hurry. dont take much for a 1000+hp car to get on the high side. im still saying it was chassis rub of somesort, because the dyno treats your car differently than a pass down the track. car sqauts hard on the dyno, where it wouldnt normally get pulled down like that as it does on a dyno.
where is chris, or someone that was there to verify? im a disbeliever, respectfully.

The tire does start smoking in the middle of the tire, but that could also be from overinflation, causing the middle of the tire to bulge out. (Hard to believe a guy with that much power wouldn't check something like that!).

Regardless, that is damned impressive.

OMG! Look at the damn car! DO YOU SEE ANY REAR SQUAT?!?!?!?!??! There is 0, that's Z E R O, zilch, none, nada squat.

There are vids of it running the 1/4, squatting the rear a little, and no rub!

Goto http://www.fasttrackperformance.com/...omerrides.html for several more vids of that car. Note the description of this video!

Edit - and the comment about cars squatting more on a dyno than an actual track run is insane. Most rear squat is caused from linear acceleration. Cars squat LESS on a dyno due to the lack of this

there was no sqaut on the dyno beccuase it was strapped down.... prolly less rooom in the wheelwell than a hard squat on the track. with slicks.... tire growth can be a problem, and being strapped doesnt let the rear of the car act like it does going down the track.
ive seen a 491whp mustang smoke the tires on the dyno, and it was the tire rubbing the fender. car runs fine on the road and track becuase there the suspension can work like its supposed to.
ive seen a handful of other cars smoke the tires on a dyno, and it was not cause of spinning. all were associated with rubbing.
not flaming or arguing, just stating my point.
CAPS LOCK makes me ears hurt.
