Supercharge or WHAT??
I have made up my mind, I am going to bring my GTA 5.7 in for some modifications. Because I love this CAR!!
I want to end up about 350 hp and 375-400 tq.
Money is not the issue. What is better all the way around, to build (pistions, CAM, ETC) or put a Paxton Supercharger on the car with a really good tune-up. The motor is in great condition.
What are your thoughts??

If your TPI I would suggest new manifold, larger injectors, maybe port/polish stock heads.......and a little more aggressive camshaft and slick up compression a tad.
When you say money is an issue, how much of an issue?
I would only go to forced induction IF I had that inmind and had an engine setup soley for that purpose, I would not want to use force induction on a stock motor unless I just happen to find one for dirt cheap (which doesn't happen)

He says money isn't an issue. And what is it with people being afraid to put a power adder on a stock motor? That's what most of the newer models were specifically designed for. It's not a problem so long as you anticipate your limitations!

i would go with a pro charger of vorteck if you like the noise of the blower and you can get more boost the nice thing about the paxton is it is quite no one know it there untill you smoke the in a race. My paxton took off 1 and 1/2 sec off my track time when tuned right

So I say: Ok fine, you run 6psi on your 7.5:1 turd, and i'll run 10psi on my intercooled 9.3:1 and we'll see who gets to the finish like first, K?

Well if you have to keep the car smog legal then I think that kind of limits what you can do. I know nothing about the smog laws, so I dont really have any good advice there. I would look into whatever parts are advertised as 50 state legal.
What I do know is that the stock motor can handle boost fine as long as its tuned right and you dont get greedy. My bone stock L98 has been boosting 6psi for over 50k miles and no issues yet. I'm using the Vortech S-Trim V1. Blower went on at 75k miles and still running strong at 130k+. Just make sure you maintain the engine (oil changes, etc). Also note that the bone stock L98 will not maximize the potential of a centrifugal supercharger. The stock intake/heads/cam cause the powerband to die down around 4500-4800rpm. And considering the blower reaches 6psi around 3000-3500rpm or something, you dont really put that boost to good use. I'm planning on an intake and cam swap, and even though the stock L98 heads will still be holding me back, it'll still put that boost to better use by changing the powerband. So instead of only pushing max boost for around 1000 to 1500rpm, it'll push max boost for 2500 - 3000 rpm. Of course these figgures can be different depending on what you got, but I'm trying to point out that a blower on a stock L98 wont maximize the potential of the power adder.

Crazy Hawaiian.
Thanks for the post - that has to be one of the more informative posts I have read in a while. If I understand you - you added the supercharger to a stock L98 at 6lbs boost. What power did that give you? I would like to change the cam - heads - intake on my L98 first - I am thinking of adding the supercharger afterwards. However, the other way around with the supercharger first would be fun too. The prices vary so much on what parts to go with - I am thinking of saving some money on heads and intake and putting the rest towards a vortech. Any thoughts on this?

Why not just get a full set of various bolt ons and then just add some juice. you can get the same amount of power or more but you can choose to use the power when you want to.

Another question regarding supercharging - looking at the pictures of the procharger and vortech - it does not look like they are hooked up to MAF cars. Am I right on this? Also, they all seem to need the serpintine set up. Are there any that do not require serpintine?
