What am I missing about supercharging

First off, I have run roots type superchargers for years with great success on carbed cars. I would like to supercharge my 1985 IROC. But all the kits I see are for 1988 to 1992. Why? My best guess is because the kits are set up for the serpentine belt system? If this is the case, I assume I could just swap on a serpentine system. Am I missing something here? Why else would the kits not work on an 85 6 or 7?

Yes, it is the serp set-up that makes the difference.

I want to convert my Trans Am from carb to TPI and maybe someday add a Procharger or other blower. Can somebody tell me if all GM small blocks with a serpentine belt system used the same set up or are the belts chassis specific. If I swap a serpentine set up into my 83, would I have to pull the set up from another F-body to fit a blower kit?

Yes, you will need a serp set up from a third gen. Not all serps are the same, though some look the same. TBI pick-ups look the same, but they locate everything a bit too high for a third gen. GM performance parts sell a serp set-up that will work but its expensive. Best bet is used, ebay, swap meet, junk yard.

WOW!!! I guess I wasted $3400.00 on a real supercharger, $1000.00 on a water injection system, and around another $1000.00 in computer upgrades, chips, injectors, ignition, etc. I could have purchased five of these & installed them in series & made an extra 175 hp. Man am I stupid! Hey thanks for the ad. Just waiting to see this on an infomercial during my favorite racing shows.
