Big cube smallblock

Hey guys was wondering are there any of you running a big cube smallblock? The reason I asked is that we started with the very popular 383 but got a very very good deal on some 400 bowtie blocks.Just wontd to know if you had any trouble with them I know 400 are know for running hot but these are not production blocks.Thinking about a 434.Any info would be helpful. Thanks

You will need to clerance the pan rails and use a small base cam. I have a 434 im using the motown block. After puting it together I think I would perfer the 3.850 stroke better rod ratio and stronger pistons also easer to keep the comp ratio down for pump gas use. Just my opinion. I use nos and geting the ring pack down is a must. On my motor I added the extra .020 from the dart decks into the comp height of my pistons. Darts deck height is 9.025 as compared to a 9 in deck. Next big inch motor for me will be with a tall deck block. If you are running a na motor or a mild hit of nos around 200 or lower you wont have any proublems.

The only problem encountered with the production 400 blocks running hot, is when the steam holes are not drilled into the heads. On a race only engine, this does not have to be done, because the overheating oproblem occurs at low RPM, and a race engine never sees this range.

My 436, uses a production 400 block bored to .040, and uses Brodix Track1s. With a 180 thermostat, and both fans on the engine never got into the 200s yet. The fan relay ground is going to be removed, and the fans will be controlled through the chip program instead, thanks to DIY Prom.

Ive heard that if you got stuck in traffic on a 95* day, you will have the temp. climb. All I would do is shut the car off and wait. I never had any problems like this though. My car is street driven.

Jack look in the new issue of super chevy thay have an article with some insite for you on a build up of a 434. Small note there comp height on them pistons thay added the extra .020 on to there comp height also.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought production blocks had a distance of 9.025 from the crank centerline to the deck surface?

Im not 100% positive but im fairly sure any piston you will buy off the shelf come with the pin hight set for a 9 in deck. And yes I looked it up and you are right the standard small block does have a 9.025 hight sorry if ive mis led you.
