NO....Not enough material in the block to bore engine to 4.030. You can still put a 400 crank in a 305, but might as well get a 350 block and build 350 or 383.....As the old saying goes....There no substitution for cubic inches....

ok, i guess my main concern is the motor mounts. i have seen the specials and articles about dropping an ls1 into a third gen. and between all of the hacking and fabricating, im trying to do something simple with my existing block. do you think a 350 would work with my 5spd without much modifications. i dont think these cars came with 350 5spd

T-5 5spds have a reputation for being weak.... I personally have seen them take alot of abuse as long as slicks arent being used...It would last for a while, especially if 350 is pretty stock....I had a buddy that had a stock t-5 behind a well buit 350 (came out of his stock car) He is the only person i ever had tell me I wasnt driving his car hard enough...lol He never broke the transmission.....

I have a 305 with a 400 crank. Bored 30 that makes 335 cubic inches. It's an awesome engine and I can easily outrun my stock 98 LS1 Z28. It has a crapload of torque and has a lot of power throughout the powerband. I have my stock T5 with a hurst short shifter to help with shifts.

I am eventually going to get a 350 block and put the same crank in it, however, the 335 turned out way better than I thought it was going to. I mainly did it just to see what would happen.

and that block would bolt right up in the existing location as my 305, and the 5 speed also?

It wasnt that bad. I bought it from powerhouse, enginekits.com, and I ended up paying $1200, but that was for the stroker kit and everything for a rebuild, including a new cam.
