Extremely Stupid question
Okay 89' TPI 305 with a 5spd. (borg warner) and 9bolt(borg warner) with 3.45's.
I wanna make this car well fast. She is completely stock, will the tranny hold up to lets say a 125shot of nitrous? I know the motor will take it but will the driveline? I doubt it since the LB9 can drop it out of the bellhousing in stock form but i want opinions.
If i get a system it will be a NOS wet TPI system, nothing fancy, just for track use, thanks.
If the Nitrous produces to much torque, would a turbo fair the tranny better?

You mean like more than once?
I wouldn't throw more than 300ft/lbs of torque through a stock WC T5 trans, hell I think it was rated at 270 with the non WC rated at 230.

spray it, keep it around 100 wet shot, if it wheel hops fix the suspension, don't keep allowing it to wheel hop over and over, that will kill the tranny and/or the differential.

Ive never heard that before B4cTom...? I thought that the only thing wheel hop would kill is 60 ft times?
How would MORE traction Prevent damage to the tranny and diff?
I would think that the best way to save your tranny would be to wait til later in the run to spray, however this is based on my limited knowledge and track time so dont quote me or anything...

just don't power shift. I blew third gear (took the teeth right off the gear) when I had mine another friend took 3rd out on his firebird. I know a couple guys with 5.0 stangs that did the same. there are so many parts that break on the t-5 it's hard to say when to use the shot and when not too.
I guess just keep the wheel hop down like was already stated (shock loads the whole drive train ... like dumping the clutch and slamming gears but quicker)

When I lived out in Cali I had about 12 or 13 broken thirdgen diffs piled on the side of the house and 3 trannys. most of those broke in wheelhop situations.
One broke when I was frying them across a parking lot and drove over the speed bump, and one broke when I drove off a curb hauling ***.
A couple were broken during a high RPM clutch dumps. The others were broken during power shifts.
When I bought my Herb Adams solid control arms I quit wheel hopping and would simply "flat spin", which is alot less dramatic and less harmful.
I am wondering if you understand what I mean by wheel hop. If you have ever driven a car with severe wheel hop, you wouldn't even try to burn out again until you fixed the problem. I once saw a 3rd gen firebird wheelhop so badly once that it shattered the rear hatch glass.
