MSD 6+ box? WTF? HELP!!!
I connected my MSD box and go to crank it up and it does not fire. I check all my connections which isnt that many! Im using the GM wiring harness, red 2 red, black 2 black, orange 2 orange, white 2 white. Pulled the connector off the coil and connected the GM harness to it and connected what I pulled off the coil to the harness also.
Im grounded to the body of the car, thick red going to the battery
when I first made connection with the power cable I got a spark and also when I connected ground....NOW I DONT!...whats up?
MSD is closed.
Did I short out the box somehow? how would that be possible?
Im getting so freakin frustrated!!!!!

heres the GM harness. dont mind the green wire thats the orange. When I disconnect the MSD and put the connectors back to normal it fires right up.

Do you have an inline fuse in the MSD wire harness? I installed a Crane Hi6 box on a friends car before and it would not start. We went over the wiring several times, even called tech, and ended up gettin an R/A number to send it back. Before pulling it off the car, we checked the inline fuse, and it was not there.
Sounds stupid, and it is, but sometimes we can easily look past the smallest of details while looking for something more serious to be wrong.
Good luck,
DonB

where would I put the fuse? It doesnt call for one anywhere...what wire?
Would that in any way cause the box to short out? I mean, you know how when you make a connection with something you get that little sizzle of spark well I dont get that when I connect the hot wire to the battery and its getting a good ground....when I first connected it, I did get the spark but that was one time. The light on the box doesnt lite when I attepmt to crank it, I dont even know if its suppose to.
tell me so i can try it out...and what size fuse?
thanks for replying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this the digital 6+?
If there is no light on then something isn't right. Try a different ground. Also, make sure the battery has a good ground as well. No rust or other crap. Wiggle all wire connections, double check and make sure they're good. The box NEVER got wet right? These things don't like water, my friend is on his 3rd one in his vette, and still hasn't moved the box yet.
You may have shorted out the box, they are a little finicky. But I would try everything else first.

I called MSD and they will not warranty the box because I bought it second hand. Said that I can ship it to them and the cost will be no more than $75.00 to check it and fix it but it will take 14 working days. I dont have that long.
I also emailed the guy who I got it from and he assured me that it worked, he tested it before he sent it out. He says that he has an MSD box checker. I have since pulled the box and unrouted the wires to check them out and everything looks ok.
I want to test the box somehow out of its mounted position.
How can I do that?

Well I contacted the person whom I got the box from he was a big help. We checked everything out and found out the box was burned up due to the wiring harness being wires wrong on MSD's part. He runs sportsman class and said that he had some pull with MSD so he called them on a 3 way and got them to fix or replace my box and harness free of charge under my name and shipped directly to me.
whew!!!! I thought I was screwed!....now hopefully I can ge it back in a hurry!

figuered i'd post a follow up on this...
never got the dig 6+ box to work... bought a new one, since this one was definately off warrenty - figuered once i got a working box in there, i'd send this one out for repairs, keep it as a abck up or sell it...
welllll, got the second box - NO GOOD TOO.... now mind you, i have a 6a box already in it, so it wasnt the hook ups..
anyways, called MSD, talked to the guy, told him i had two bum boxes, that i tried everything and nothing worked, and he gave me an RMA# and had me ship em out... i just got them back a week or two later, and i have two brand new boxes... im just hoping they WORK!
