It has finally arrived...

The kit is part# 05151-15nos. I hear alot of different opinions on whether I should go with 100 shot or 150. The short block has 225,000 miles on it but it doesn't smoke and runs great. It's a 305 by the way. What do you yall think?

If you were trying to make it last I wouldn't even put a 100 shot on it

It's a 15lb bottle. It fits quite nicely above the battery in the spare tire well.

I just finished mounting the bottle. I didn't think it was going to fit but it fit like it was meant to be there.

Ummmm isn't it kind of dangerous to mount flammable gas right above a battery LOL, I would have thought for concealing and safety you could have put it into the rear well and shut the privacy cover if you have one LOL

Do you go to the track at all? How do you get away mounting your battery like that?

N2O by itself is not flammable. All it does is make the air/fuel mixture much denser by adding oxygen and dramatically cools it by adding nitrogen hence the N2O.

The battery is held down with a battery hold down kit which includes the battery tray. Trust me, everything is solidly mounted.

No I mean I got bitched at for it not being in a sealed box and have a switch to cut it off on the back of the car.

2 thoughts there: Mounted like that, not in a sealed box, probably without an outside cutoff switch will not pass tech at most tracks, I don’t see a blowdown tube either, and second, even if you get away with it, if you ever enter an event and win (say bracket race or whatever), if someone catches wind of it and bitches to whoever is running the race they’ll strip you of your win for not having a legal car…

I haven't installed the blow down tube yet. What I'm thinking about doing is separating the bottle from the battery with a section of plywood or plexiglass. There's enough room between them to slide one in and bolt it down. That should seal off the battery. As far as a remote cutoff I haven't figured that one out yet.

I think the rule states for our cars is you have to have a sealed battery box. And that doesnt mean the cheap plastic ones.

The moroso plastic ones are OK, it really just has to be sealed and vented outside. Wood isn’t a valid firewall as per the rules, steel or aluminum…

Really, I'm not sure that I see the point with an optima or one of the newer, compact dry cells, but those are the rules. I'm pretty sure that there was talk of changing them with batteries that don't leak/vent, but I don't think that it ever happened

Hopefully you don’t have the bottle filled yet, need to install the fitting for the tube before it’s filled.

I’ve got my NX 15# bottle mounted in the same place, but instead I made a saddle to hold the bottom of the bottle all the way at the back/bottom of the well, and then I modified one of the straps to attach to the spare tire bracket… I’m using some braded line as a blow down…

Unfortunatly, not in the 3rd gen. I had it setup similarly but not as nicely in my 4th gen prior to this and have pictures of that, but that won't help much since that space actually has a different shape and supports on a 4th gen.
