possibly a stupid question

if you were to install a single turbocharger on a v8, or any engine in a "v" formation, should you route both banks of the exhaust to the turbo, or can you get away with one bank going to the turbo and the other bank flowing out the tailpipe?

A single turbo needs both banks feeding it.
Don't ask.....Can I get away with using one bank?

You can use one bank....it just won't work right.

Saab used one bank of a V6 to drive a turbo. According to them, it was 'inovative'. IIRC, they called it 'asymetrical turbocharging'. Of course it was inovative, nobody else did it because everyone else knew the turbo would work better with all of the engines exhaust used to power it.

I'll see if I can find the link...

If both banks feed the turbo what do you do about your exhaust system? Is there still a need for a muffler and tailpipes on a turbo car?
