compression + NOS

I want to run a 150 shot of NOS, my engine is a 383 with 10.5:1 comp and fairly big cam. Do you guys think 150hp is too much to push through this setup? It would just be the occasional once every couple weeks at the strip usage.

sounds good to me. I run 10.3:1 compression and 125 shot and have no problems. I had to put spark plugs in that were a couple numbers down colder. I also use 112 octane when I plan on using the nos, just to make sure there is no pinging. and step the timing back 2 degrees.

you're worried about 150hp through an aftermarket short block? Unless the parts used were complete junk you should be able to throw a lot more then that at it.

great, you guys have put my mind at ease, I have had a bloke tell me my engine will crack if I put any forced induction through it. Good to know the consensus around here is the opposite.

btw, the engine is completely new SCAT crank, 4 bolt main, edelbrock E-TEC heads and vortec HSR.

What about 12:1? I don't really want to do it but I think it would be fun to run nitrous. I'm under the impression that my compression is too high to do it safely without lots of extra work. I.E. Fuel system specifically for the nirtous.

All you nitrous gurus let me know.

You defenatly need to make sure that you have plenty of fuel flow! Fuel starvation will kill anything when nos is involved. make sure you have a good pump. aftermarket electric pump on FI or carb. with 12:1 compression 110 or 112 octane wouldn't hurt!

The problem isn’t compression, it’s detonation. Modest shots of N2O will not make the engine significantly more likely to detonate, BUT if it does you have that much more behind that detonation to break parts making carrying it home in a bucket more likely.
