Paxton vs Vortech vs Powerdyne
What do you like or dislike about each?
I've been looking at them for a few days and all I can really tell is:
Vortech costs less.
Powerdyne has an internal belt drive which SOUNDS like a good idea.
Paxton? Well, I don't see anything that really sets it apart.
Whats is your opinion?

I am running a procharger and am very happy with it. If you go with one of those I think everyone really likes the D1sc, If you get a paxton I think people like the novi(believe the are gear driven), but out of what you have listed I would probably go with Vortech(never owned one though).

Sorry I left them off the survey. I didn't mean to offend anyone, it was just an oversight.
I know the pre-Novi paxtons had problems and the Vortech is definately the price leader. But I really like the idea of the internal belt drive(vs gear drive) of the PowerDyne.
The PowerDyne compressor by it's self is <$2500, and since NO ONES kit would work right for me, I'm considering buying it and trying to make it fit.

I have had all three.
The Vortech by far is the best product. The Powerdyne is by far the worst and has the worst customer service. They break internal belts a lot. And that is a PITA to replace. The Powerdyne does run cooler than the others and this can be important if you are running some compression with boost.
Don't take my word for it

Owning any supercharger makes you well informed quickly as to the features you do and don't like. Paxton & Vortech are very simiar, one actually own the other (don't know who owns whom), so the features are similar, biggest difference is Paxton retains it's own oil and must be serviced at mileage intervals, whereas Vortech uses the engine oil for lubrication. Vortech SQ is very quiet you hardly notice it when warmed up and hood closed.
I own a Vortech. If I were to buy another one, I would get the biggest(most rib count) belt available 12 rib minimum. Belt slip is a fact of life but a six rib sucks. It constantly slips, its a big disappointment. I just spent alot of money to retrofit my Vortech to cog belts. I could have bought a better unit with a better drive system with the extra money I spent to upgrade my charger.

So a couple more votes for Vortech. I'm starting to see a trend here.
What kind of boost might a Vortech produce @6000rpm in a 383 (What model?)
87tpi7749, how much boost are you running and aren't there some drawbacks to running a cog-belt?

Vortech now owns Paxton.
Running a cog with stock internals and a stock balancer can be risky.
Boost on a 383? Depends on the blower used, restrictions in the intake tract and pully size on the blower.

esc, I'm running 12psi with my cogs. I was seeing 8psi @ 6000 rpm from my stock Vortech set up that was advertised as 6-8psi on my 355 & 383. I've had the charger on two different motors. The only draw back to a cog is the waiting to get them and the cost. Actually if you have a manual trans, you need to have a bypass valve, if you have an automatic it's not required but still a good idea.
Mike 92LX, yes its true, the belt slip "saves" stock parts, which is why my 383 is a Bowtie block, Eagle 4340 crank, Manley rods, SRP pistons, ATI Superdamper, just to name a few parts. I wouldn't supercharge any stock motor over 6psi and it would have to be in perfect tune.
With my cogs on my 383 I saw 12psi @ 6200, but keep in mind I ordered 10psi so these are not stock diameter pulleys. I am doing my single plane intake swap this week so I will see how much the boost changes vs the stock tpi intake.
