turbo noob question
not looking for any kind of real performance, but i got a singel turbo kit, headers and cross over, for 330 bucks, i also got a t3/t4 turbo with .96 AR. i have a 305 tpi bone stock, will this turbo be too small and actually hurt my performance, i mainly bought it for the looks and sound, just wondering thanks in advance

That turbo should work. Just don't forget about the downpipe, oil lines, and tuning. I wouldn't go boost with that 100 shot installed (from your signature).

of course not, especially with the stock motor, its a small enough turbo that will spool quick enough on its own, but the nitrous kit will probably stay on the car incase i ever do decide to upgrade

The turbo is probubly just big enough, but it will probubly be a little inefficient, so i would spray a little 50 shot at it too.
What compressor is it, T04E or T04B? It might be ok either way, but you'd be better off with the T04E 60 trim or maybe the T04B H3 or V1/V2 trim. The best way to find out is to bolt it on? what have you got to lose?

A 305 TPI should be ok with that turbo. Besides, with a stock motor, I don't think you'll be making enough boost to push that turbo out of its efficiency range anyway.
I've never heard of a T3 turbine a/r of .96, I believe the biggest they make is .82. Are you sure it's a T3/T4 and not a straight T4? Those can have a .96 a/r housing. Is the bolt pattern on the turbine mounting flange rectangular or square?
If it's a full T4 with that housing and providing it isn't one of the smaller compressor wheel/housing combos, then I agree with everyone. It will be barely adequate, but it will work perfectly on a stock 305 TPI if you only want looks and sound with just a bit more performance from a low amount of boost.
I'd say it would be similar to most stock turbo cars, in that there turbos are usually too small for good performance because the factories wanted quick spool and low end torque, which they acheive.

There’s a lot of crap out there… it might just be a T3/T04 hybrid, but made of left over parts when making a proper hybrid. It could just be a T04 turbine side and a T3 compressor…, something that would be pretty much useless for everything.
