ATTN:Willie +Maniac ,ATI's crank spacer fix is a crock!

I have the system fully installed. But last night I was just looking at the whole pully setup.I know Maniac told me that he was still throwing belts.Well I still had the .800 spacers from the first rounds with ATI's quality control on the bracket.I replaced the the one that came on the bracket that sits near the crank to the .800 length,it seemed to center the belt more in the middle of that pully. So i went ahead and measured the spacing of the belt from the crank all the way to the blower pully.I found a whopping difference just in this little distance.the range was way to much out of spec for my liking, over a 1/4 inch difference or a little more. Well it is so off that just by looking at the setup from the passenger side it looked as if that little spacer that ATI supplied with the last upgrade of the bracket is a complete waste. It pushes the belt out further than the blower pully so that the belt is in misalignment.I removed the little spacer and, wala, dead on alignment, even better than before,1/16 or less.Very good.Something to look into guys if you are still throwing belts. The belt sits in the center of every idler pully also.Check it out.

Darren,

Well i still haven't had a chance to drive the car yet...got about another 6 weeks of crappy weather...
I know it's hard to keep track of, but you should have received smaller spacers for the blower and that cheesy crank pulley spacer. The smaller blower spacers are supposed to move the blower closer to the bracket which helps centers the belt on the idler pullies...then the crank pulley shim is to make up for .200" they removed from the blower spacers.

I talked to Dorian about this very thing, and I let him know that I was not very happy with the shim patch job...and he said the next time they do a run of the crank pulley spacers, they will make the spacer 3.250" instead of what we already have(3.050").

oh well...come on spring time!!!!
later

Larry,I got the little "patch" crank spacer But for some reason the belt is much more aligned without it.I am using the smaller blower spacers too.Just check the spacing to the belt at different spots from the crank pully to the blower pully.Dam I need a digital camera to convey my messages.
