NOS ON MY 305?

I have a 89 camaro RS. With a 305 TBI freshly rebuilt. I also have MSD ignition, Edelbrock TES headers, flowmaster exhaust, larger fuel pump, open air filter element, and a jet chip. I found a NOS kit for $750, its a kit made for my 305 TBI and is adjustable for 100-150 HP. I was thinking about running about 120. Would my car handle NOS? Is there any other mods I should do before setting this up? Would it still be reliable? I always hear storys about blown up motors with nos so I want to do it right. What are the chances I will mess up my 305? The car has an auto trans.

$750????that's way too much for a NOS system!!!!!look harder for a nitrous system!

i think it depends on how much you plan to use it. if you wanna pop nos at every street race then you better go have some internal work done on the engine (foarged stuff!). a v8 with stock internals will last longer than those retards that put nos on a 4 banger with stock internals, but it will blow up eventually. if you only plan to use it every once in a while (like u dont waste it on stupid civics, only use it on real competition like turbo supras and stuff) then it might not be that bad of an idea. cheap and makes u go fast ... good luck!!

first off, if youre paying 750 like the last guys said, youre paying way too much. second, lose the aftermarket chip, it absolutely must be a stock chip or one compliant specifically with nitrous. third, you can run up to a 150 shot so long as you juice it above at least 2,500 RPMs remember that your motor can last forever, yes thats right even on nitrous. be careful, do plug cuts often, check use plenty of guages (fuel pressure, nitrous pressure) dont push the car past 5,000 RPMs on nitrous, and be sure youve got a good ignition/fuel system to back up all the power.

Why get rid of a performance or custom chip when you are going to be NA 99% of the time? Get a good digital ignition box with a high speed retard, and you get the best of both worlds.

Jacobs Electronics makes a nitrous controller that can limit the nitrous flow to stop detonation if fuel pressure drops off. The Nitrous Mastermind can do progressive nitrous and more, it's pretty cool. A lot of guys have said 125 hp is a good shot for a stock 305. Good luck.

yeah, get rid of the chip, with the chip and an ignition timer, some chips and ignition timers won't work together, if you even run nitrous with a fuel curve-adjusting chip youll be done for

No, you wont. I run a 150HP NOS 5151 wet kit shot with a MSD 8982 retard box and a TPIS custom chip with no probs. An MSD Digital 6 would be even better.

Hey thanks guys your info really helps. I was thinking that I would put in some ignition and maybee a larger fuel pump and injectors before i do the nos. Where might be a good place to get that. Think this is necassary before i get nos hooked up?
