ATI...anyone having problems

I was hoping to oneday upgrade to ATI but I've read some things about them on camaroz28.com that makes me think Vortech...some guys aren't too happy.

Anyone having problems here? I know some guys were having some belt throw.

i've had no problems with belts with my ATI. the only ones who did i know of were

-Maniac
-Willie
-PROCHARGED89Z

the reason was because they were the first 3 i believe to purchase the D-1SC kit and it wasn't test fitted by ATI before selling they just used the CAD machine to make everything but both ATI and these mentioned I BELIEVE have worked it out.

here is a little comparo between vortech and ATI for you:

-ATI Comes with intercooler
-Vortech doesn't

-ATI comes with 9psi and H.O. has 12psi with stock timing and pump gas
-Vortech gives you 6psi and ignition retard box

-Vortech have to reroute alternator and problems with power steering i hear about
-ATI alternator stays in same position and no problems with power steering pump

-Numerous examples of STOCK TPI cars running 14s to go into 12s with an ATI
-Only "HEARD" of 1 example of a Vortech putting a STOCK TPI car into the 12s. No one has been able to prove to me otherwise.

-ATI DOESN'T come with an igition box
-Vortech DOES come with ignition box

Go with ATI, you wont be dissapointed. I felt like before i bought mine and am happy i went with ATI.

It's been worked out months ago. The belt throwing was an alignment issue, nothing more. And yes, we were the first three to buy the kit and it was NOT trial fitted by ATI before release of the kit. I've run mine since January on a daily basis with no problems.

Add me to the list of happy ATI owners. I like to research products before deciding on one. I originally picked Vortech. Then I realized you get more for your money with ATI (i.e. intercooler). But the major point that swayed me over was when ATI introduced their self-contained blower. Currently, Vortech has no plans of manufacturing a self-contained blower. I loathed the idea of having to punch a hole in my oil pan. That's what made my decision a very easy one to make.

Another point I should make that I didn't in my comparison of ATI to Paxton's SN2000 post. I was unaware that my belt was slipping. Can you imagine a 12.26 @ 113.55 mph with only 5 - 6 psig (because of a slipping belt) with a 305? With this minimal amount of boost, this little D1SC has taken almost two seconds off my best naturally aspirated run. Wait until I PUMP IT UP!!!

Former Paxton (6-psig): 12.57 @ 111 mph.
Former Paxton (6-psig) & former 50-hp nitrous: 12.04 @ 114 mph.
Current ATI D1SC (Initially 10-psig): Projecting high 11's.
Future ATI D1SC (15-psig): Gotta catch them pesky 26-psig boosted TTA's!!

I don't know yet. I'm waiting to talk to ATI about this. I'll either go with the 3.70" or 3.55". I'm leaning towards the smaller because I don't want to change pullies again (or belt size). Them 12-rib belts are $75 each (ouch!). Speak about pumping my wallet dry....

I posted on CC Z-28 as 2MCHPSI and I can only speak for the 4th gen P-600 kits that I have used... And I thought the kit sucked pretty bad quality wise compared to the Vortech.

I have installed S-Trim kits on 4th gens and 4.6 and 5.0 Mustangs

I have installed P-600 kits on 4th gens and ATI kits on Mustangs.

The aluminum housing of the P-600 kits arent near the same quality of the S-Trims, neither is most of the hardware. The design of the blower inlet and its positioning, and the cheesy orange flex hose is prety bad design for the 4th gens. The intercooler mounting is a complete joke on the 4th gen with the P-600 kits.

I can see why you get an intercooler with the ATI kit, cause they cut corners everywhere else it seems.

I am biased with these kits since I own a Vortech, but I can honestly say that I would not recommend a P-600 kit to any of my friends, unless they get a great deal on a used one for under 1800 bucks.

Now I have never installed a D1 on any car, and have heard they are better quality and make damn good power. The only complaints I have is with the P-600 kits.

no offense here...but most of us have 4th gens and that info wouldn't pertain to us.

i also agree that ATI skimped on some things on the 4th gen kits but the third gen kits are very complete and come with the good black rubber hoses and have made great power

Well I agree here on a few things with Kevin,Ive seen pics of 4th gen kits and the orange flex hose looks like trash, but the 3rd gen kits are nice, especially the new SC kits for our year after all the bugs were worked out.But in regards to a Vortech for our years, yes they fit good on the Camaros, but I helped in stall one on a GTA and we could not remount the cruise control harness and the winshield washer box.We called Vortech and all they could say was "oh,we will look into that"Its very obvious the kit was never installed on a GTA or Formula. In regards to the flex hose being used it looks like **** on every kit Ive seen it on ,from the Paxtons to the Prochargers to the Vortechs.I dont know why in gods name do they use this cheap looking cheap *** crapola intake tubing.Although I cant comment on the 4th gen kits, the 3rd gen kits are well made if thats what you want to know. And while Ive heard many horror stories of dealing with ATI.I can say Ive been treated fairly well in the past. When I had the problems with the D1SC kits,my blower went back to ATI about 4 times, all Fed EX pick ups at my door and overnites to ATI,with ATI paying the bill for all shipping.I know its at least $50 to ovvernite it to KS from MA easily,if not more one way.It was overnited there, but always 2 day aired back to me.And the blower never spent more than a week at anytime at ATI,ever. So when I hear stories of people not seeing their blowers for over 2 months I get very skepticle.I only deal with Dorian there, thats it.If hes not there,I call back or leave a message. He is a great guy and good to talk to,Ive bull****ted with him on the phone at times during buisness hours, and the last time on the phone with him I asked of the new LS1 supercharger kit.I will be out at the end of the month. It will be mounted on the lower half of the engine out of site, and come with duel high flow intercoolers.Testing,as he told me has confirmed some real good numbers at the track. That will be cool to see.

Heres one thing I would like to know though,What is the most popular 3rd gen Supercharger kit?It would be interesting to know who sells more.

I am glad to hear that ATI did a good job on the 3rd gen kits. My response was to the original question on this post which had a link to the CCz28 who owned a 4th gen.

I too, agree with Darren (procharged89z), yes there was alot of problems with the new D1sc kits, but they all have been worked out.

I have finally had a chance to drive my car for some length of time, and while i was out playing around, i came across a new anniversary edition ram-air t/a (nice lookin car but i hate the blue rims!), needless to say, i put a pretty bad whoopin' on him from a 30mph roll. Off the line he ate me up, mainly because my gas pedal has two positions, on and off!, and i just fried the tires as he was pulling away

As soon as i fix my coolant leak at the intake manifold, i'll try to get to the track and get some numbers.

Nothin beats being BLOWN!!!!!
