question about nitrous and timing....
i have a hypertech chip in my car and i just finished my nitrous kit install. NOS recommends running 1-2 degrees of retard with the juice. from what i understand, the hypertech chip just increases ignition timing. So what do i do? just the timing back 2 degrees retarded or should i take out the chip and get a different one??? i dont have the stock chip so id have to buy a new one. or can i buy like a MSD timing retard or something and just use that only when i spray???? thanks for the help.
I also agree. If you have an ignition box already such as MSD's 6A, get MSD's 8982 timing retard box. If you have no box, look into MSD's Digital 6. Don't forget to look at other manufacturer's ignition boxes also.

i have a MSD 6A box right now. if i get the timing retard box, how does it work??? do you set it for a specific retard and then it waits to retard until you fire the juice or do you have to manually retard it by the little **** thingy??? does it plug into the MSD box? also, how will this work with my hypertech chip? thanks for the help.

As far as your Hypertech chip goes, you will probably have to pull out a little more timing than you would if you had had a stock chip. Most give a rule of thumb of 1-2 degrees per 50HP. It may be a bit more for you.

i have to agree and disagree with you guys.
i have a 305 tbi with a 125 hp shot of juice and a hypertech thermomaster chip and i have my base timing set at 2 degrees advanced and i never have any detonation problems with it and i am on the juice the whole quarter. although you should retard the timing 1.5-2 degrees for every 50 hp increase shot. i have never had any problems and i run Texaco 93 octane fuel, not race fuel either.

well, yeah thats fine, but he stated the topic probably to be on the safe side, 1992- I agree with you- you don't nessecarely have to retard the timing in order to be safe with nitrous, in fact l have a near stock LB9 305 tpi with 70,000 miles on it, and I run 150 HP nitrous at 6 degrees of advance. I've never had it to the track yet, but I've gone through all gears to 4th under juice, and gone through about 12 bottles at 150 with it, still no problems. I do plan however to atleast get an upgraded ignition for it but youre right 92- you really don't nessecarely have to have an ignition box to run nitrous
