Turbo install

I am new to the board and have some q's on things:

I will be replacing head gaskets on an 85 bird. Was wondering if feasible to install a turbo where the y-pipe conects to the cat, or place right behind the y conection near the engine bay. Was thinking of "aquiring" a turbo setup from an old d***e daytona & put it to better use.
Also, what is the psi on these things?, and will i need an intercooler?

thanks in advance

First of all -- I'm not trying to be a smart *** , just in case this comes off the wrong way.

I can appreciate that you want to get into modding your car, etc. but something like a turbo setup is a big deal, and not something to just jump in and do without a little research. There's no way that you can connect the turbo off of the Y-pipe (to answer your question.) It's also not something that you can just get under your car and start turning bolts - unless you don't want your car to be driveable for a damn WHILE.
There's a book called Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. It's interesting to read, and there's tons of practical information about turbocharging. READ IT.
If you have a blown head gasket now, it tells me that the engine's probably tired. So even if you fix the head gasket -- look for the 2.8 to grenade after a short while under any kind of boost. I'd save up some money for a decent engine swap, and go from there. Swap in a small block and you'll see more power gains than just by turbocharging a factory 2.8
However, if you want to be different - plan on doing some major work to the internals of that engine, running some seriously high boost, and watching the jaws drop off of the small block guys when you toast them. But all in all, you apply much less money than that to a small block and you'll be further ahead with much more room for improvement.

Amen Block.

And Project, we're not ragging on you, but damn. I will give anyone credit for wanting to improve their ride, but please, do a little research before you just start to take stuff apart or bolt stuff on. Especially if this is to be your daily driver.

1985 Trans Am - rough and ready -- 3" cat and primary exhaust, lowered 2", custom rust body work mild fender denting. Daily driver.
1976 Corvette Stingray - not so rough, but always ready. 427 BBC .030 over (433 ci) 12.5:1 compression about 600-700 HP/World Class T5 tranny, and no, I can't gun it for fear of breaking my tranny - upgrading to a muncie/gear vendors O/D as soon as I get some more $$$
