custom fuel rail?
custom fuel rail?
Will the stock fuel rails suport 800hp? I will do the fuel lines and all that this winter, can i just tap into the ends of the fuel rails like Guido did or get some custom LT-1 rails? One more for Guido, why did you go with the new tank with the dry sump setup vs just plumbing into the bottom? I would like to keep my fatory muffler location or i would consider the setup you have now. Hows that bullet muffler sound?
no stock rails wont support it.
You need 1/2 rails. You can buy them from lingenfelter or even kinsler or force fuel injection, it is like $12 a foot and you only need about 2 feet and just drill the holes and tap the ends

I have TPIS mini ram rails. They are modified.
I went with the sumped tank earlier this year. I did not like the fitting plumbed into the bottom of the tank. The fuel sloshed around and unshrouded the opening under hard braking or cornering.
Force EFI sells 1/2" ID rails for $10/ft.

Factory rail will support 800hp.Prestons gotta be making that on his 305,and he is running the stock rails, measure the inside of the stock rail it is almost 1/2 inch.I have never heard of anyone going with aftermarket rails with the factory TPI setup.Size only means something when you are running low FP like carb does.As FP goes up so does flow.Carb runs 7-10 psi.EFI is 40-50,you dont need sewer pipes for rails, save your money.
Even make sure you got enough pump before anything else, even stock line size will take you into the 700hp zone.

Darren, take a look at those engine pics again. The ONLY reason he is still using STOCK RAILS is because he has a fuel system that i described a while ago when we had the "big fuel debate". If you notice he has a SX fuel pressure regulator tapped into the stock fuel rail on the drivers side. What people used to do before the aftermarket had good "single" pumps is that you'd use twin pumps (usually bosch ones). You would modify the stock gas tank to tank one of these pumps and make a bulkhead fitting out of the tank (extra fuel line) run it to a filter and then to the stock fuel rail. Then you'd have another pump plumed into the stock fuel system (where ATI says to mount them) this worked good and still works well with cars, BUT the pumps are known to go and it isn't always good to lose a pump, you'll lose fuel pressure and WILL hurt a motor. So in a sense the fuel rails are STOCK but they are MODIFIED</font>

These pics.
It looks like smitty just wanted a way around the stock pressure regulator stuck under the plenum to me. You can see that there is braided line in place of where the rail feeds the regulator and it is moved out to the side.
I remember from his magazine article that he used a stock intank pump and an SX external inline pump with it. Thats not to say he hasnt swapped now, but that is what it was when he had his vortech and it looked then like it does now.

I知 looking for info on the install of a external regulator to stock TPI rails. I知 installing a Aeromotive 340 pump and tank as it痴 what I can get locally cheaper then a oem system and Aeromotive recommends using a high flow external regulator with both the 340 and the 200. I知 won稚 be pushing anything over 450hp. I知 wondering if I知 even required to change from the now rail mount (jet adjustable fuel regulator) to a external with this pump? Any advice would be great.
