9lbs of boost on this motor? Please help asap

Hello. Well i ran acrossed a great deal on a procharger this past weekend, it has a 12lb pulley on it but i would switch it to a 9lb. My question is, can i run this safely with my engine which is a stock '88 350 shortblock, ported heads(milled just enough for flatness, which is very little) and my head gaskets are .26 I can't find the formula to figure C.R. so i thought i would ask on here. My plans are to run this with a 3 core intercooler, and water-injection, just to help reduce detenation risk. So if u can help me please do. I could use an anwser within the week, i need to decide on it and let the guy know. Thanks again

So long as your fuel system is up to par and you keep your tuning conservative, you should be fine.

I would also make sure my ignition system was upgraded with a good MSD box, probably the 6A or preferably the 6AL, and regular plugs, the A/C Delco RT43T, not the TS (extended tip) to start with... you want a short, thick groundstrap, and gap them at 035, not 45... remove the plugs at first after running and check for flakes or deposits.... and also remove your aftermarket chip at first, and reinstall the OEM chip, if appropriate.

I am in the same boat as 88 IROC 350, i also bought an ATI (D1SC) but the former owner used the 3 core intercooler on his turbo project, where should we start looking for a good 3 core, do we have to use the ATI, or can we get it from another manufactuer ?

Yes you can call ATI and buy the 3-core intercooler through them (approx. $1000), also all the hardpiping(and rubber elbows) from TB to intercooler and head unit to intercooler(for another $300 or so)...also make sure to let them know if it's a MAF or SD car.
I would check with Some ATI dealers and see if they can get you a better price (you might be able to save quite abit of moola).

You could also get one through other manufactures such as Spearco and such.

Stomp around a truck junk yard.
I just found a used IH one for $75. Previous owner had it in his car, and went larger still.
The 2000 Powerstroke truck diesels have a nice one but you have to see if it will work in an F Body, they *just* fit in a G Body.

Trouble is his MAF system won't begin to keep up with any decent tuning.

Should go to a SD system, and large injectors, might consider the Syclone ecm.

Lots of reading too.

how will the syclone ecm control an 8 cylinder.i thought there was 1 driver per injector which means you wont get the pintle to open on the 7 and 8th injector.can this be changed?also will the factory syclone ecm physically plug into the 3rd gen harness or do you have to cut and splice.

The above changes aside, IIRC, the Syclone ECM
only has tuneability up to ~4,800rpm....
Not sure what you'd do for accurate fueling
above that rpm....

good luck,

T.

some times its hard to get 9 psi on a 9 psi pulley let alone a 12psi pulley because of belt slip. dont forget to add an additional fuel pump like the one that came with the kit originally
