Depends which heads you have now, and which Corvette heads you're replacing them with. You could easily make less power.

You won't make any power at all if you try to put LS1 heads on.

The reason that you won't make any power if you try to put LS1 heads on your block is because they won't fit.

In order to give you an answer, we will need to know a little bit more about your car. What cam you are using? Areyou using a power adder (forced induction)? Do you have a TPI intake system, is it modified? Are you going to be changing any of these factors later when you put the heads on, etc.

What type of intake manifold are you running your carb? Also, what type of gears and tranny do you have?

So your saying its a 700R4 tranny? If your looking to run 11s in your car you are going to have to change cam/heads at some point. You need some serious numbers to get 11s.

AFR are the best aftermarket aluminum heads for the money, although, they are still costly. Even after purchasing them, in order to get 11s, I would have them cleaned up on all the ports. Of course, to save some cash, you could do that yourself.

If you want to go all out, you could have them ported and polished. You will probably need to change out the rear gears or the whole rear-end, if it's a 10 bolt; that rear won't last long on slicks.

Im not trying to be mean just helpful. But you did not know that an LS1 head will not work on a gen 1 block which says to me that you dont have all the technical know how to get into the 11s so you must go back and do some extra research. Running low 11s is not as easy as some might lead you to believe. But thats why you are here! :-) First make sure you have a stout camshaft 230deg or so roller cam at that. AFR heads. 10 to 1 compression a bit higher if you like but mind your purpose for the car if you go to high. Aftermarker rear end and a 100 shot of nitrous oxide to hammer it home. This should do it for you.

This isn't necessarily true. I have out of the box AFR 195 heads and ran 11 teens and 11.20's. I also ran a 10 bolt rear with 3.73's and moser axles. The compression is 10.4 and I only have a 650 carb. If you match up all the parts to work together to build torque it'll be quick. I also run slicks on the 10 bolt and have had at least 150 runs on it in the 1.5's and 1.6's. It's for sale by the way. I went to a 9" because I want to spray a big dose and try for nines. This is a street car that I drive to the track.

I have aluminum L98 heads (corvette heads) with very minor work done to them. I also have the stock rear end with the factory gears(3.23) with nearly 200,000 miles on them. I drive it to the track too. So dont say you need aftermarket stuff to go 11's. I go 10's with some stock stuff still.

The above posting (afr heads) was a suggestion for somebody that doesnt have all the research done on how to go 11s. Its a quick no hassle suggestion. Sure you can go 11s without AFR heads, and many other aftermarket heads. Ive gone 10s with factory heads (lower than that on a rails dragster and a digger), but to do that you need more than pure luck, you need to really know what you are doing.
