Supercharger finally on but sounds funny
Finally have my vortech supercharger hooked up, but it makes a loud whistle? I dont have the air filter on it yet. I have a bypass valve, but it seems like the sound is coming from the head. I didnt run it very long as I dont have the serpentine belt on, so I couldnt do too much investigating. Just hoping its not a shot bearing, it is a used system. Also, my fuel boost pump that came with took a crap, it worked before I put it on a month ago, and I ran the wires right to the battery (late at night couldnt wait to do it right) and it just clicked. I disconnected the fuel lines and still it just clicked. Gets pretty warm too. I tapped on it also. When I checked it out a month ago, I wasnt sure which wire lead was which, so I ran some water through it and didnt flush it out. Could this have corroded somthing? Is my pump ruined??!!

Batass, what your describing...it's coming from the supercharger head unit? If so, it just sounds like blower whine. The pitch will change with RPM. Try giving it a couple throttle blips while your hood is open and your doing it manually. I remember when I first fired up my car with a blower. My wife poked her head out a window and said, "What the h*ll is that noise?" My response....."POWER"

Ok well thats a relief, geez is it loud. So what do you guys think about the pump? I swapped in a carbed motor for the tbi, so if I need a new pump what would you recommend? The efi pump is still in the tank, but it will get changed out when I throw a 383 in there. Would the stock pump create enough volume for a well breathing supercharged 305 for a couple months?

Batass, I would say no, the stock pump won't be enough. If you look at all the blower kits I think they all come with a secondary pump. I've also went ahead and swapped the in tank stock pump for a Holley 255lph to work in addition to the secondary inline. I'd think you'd want to swap the intank for a 255 at the very minimum. My advice is to swap the intank and get a secondary that works.

Ok I'll get another pump. So I was playing with it again today and have some more questions.
I had the supercharger belt off so I was turning it by and it made a little noise, somewhere between a grinding and some serious gears turning, shouldnt it be about silent turning by hand? The sound goes away when im running it past 2k rpms.
The motor heated up real quick and got to about 215 degrees. I didnt run it much longer past that, as my german neighbor was yelling at me out his window. It was just past 10 o'clock and thats quiet time around here. I manually turned the fan on around 170.???
And.....the left side exhaust was blowing out water, not a crapload but plain enough to see. No water in the oil or vice versa. Not sure if it was just condensation or a blown head gasket. Any way to check that? I know these are a lot of questions, but this forum is my only source for reliable info!!!??

BATASS, not sure on the noise. You'll hear a little bit of gear mesh, especially if you have a used unit. You'd think things would be near silent when new and slowly increase audible noises as things wore in. Regarding condensation, you'll always get that in the cooler weather. You're temp guage is reading 215....the engine's exhaust is much warmer than that. The exhaust pipes while cooling will remove condesation out of the air when you shut the engine off. That pools up and when you restart your car your just blowing out that gathered condesation out your pipes. Your not leaking anything from your engine. If you were it would come out of your pipes in the form of a colored smoke.

92RS, my real response was more along the lines of;"Any real gearhead would know what he's lining up against when he hear's it". I know I get nervous when I line up next a lump,lump,lump,stumble,lump,lump....ya know!
