bore vs stoke on fi engine

im picking up another engine soon to toy with, and i was wondering what do u guys think would be a better combination for a turbocharged engine

3.620 bore x 3.310 stroke x 5.7 rod (3.4L)
3.620 bore x 3.000 stroke x 5.7 rod (3.0L)
3.620 bore x 3.000 stroke x 5.9 rod (3.0L)
and actually either combo will prolly be .030 or .060 over,im just using the blocks stock bore for the example

reason i ask is cause im thinking of destroking a 3.4L engine to play around with

i actually made a mistake in my above post, wouldnt let me edit it,and i found one more crankshaft with less stroke(quess i shoulda thought about all this before i built my 3.3L motor
3.620 bore x 3.310 stroke x 5.7 rod (3.4L)
3.620 bore x 3.310 stroke x 5.9 rod (3.4L)
3.620 bore x 3.000 stroke x 5.7 rod (3.1L)
3.500 bore x 3.310 stroke x 5.7 rod (stock 3.1L)
3.500 bore x 2.825 stroke x 6.2 rod (2.5L)
3.620 bore x 2.825 stroke x (unsure of which rod id have to use) 2.7/8L

Bigger bore- more breathing potential
Smaller bore- more efficient/faster burn, better detonation control.

Which one of those is better? Depends on what you intend your end result to be.

If _I_ was choosing for something that I was building, I’d probably do the 5.7 rod 3.4L if I wanted to go as fast as possible (although I probably wouldn’t seriously consider a V6 for that), or the stock 3.1 setup if I was shooting to build a max efficiency machine…. what are the dimentions on the stock 2.8?

As things get more exotic, the cost goes way up. My choice would be 3.4L, 5.9 rod if you could get pistons that actually worked with boost and I had money to spend. At the cost of all that......I would chuck a 4.3L in it instead.

My choices would be stick with a stock 3.1L assembly or a stock 4.3L assembly.

stock 2.8 would be 3.500 bore x 3.000 stroke x 5.7 rod
the last motor combination (2.5) is used in hydro plane boats/midgets and tend to make around 350 hp na with heads comparable to the gen 3 aluminum heads.
though they tend to have mechanical injection with itb's and generally rev over 7k

That’s wonderful but you’re not answering the question… Without details of what you want to end up with we could literally answer any one of the combinations as long as we have a reason why we like them better, not that it will help you at all. I at least tried “I’d pick this for this reason or that for that reason…”

there are no real goals in mind, this is simply something i thought of after i built my 3.3L engine.this is something id like to play with.i figure the higher reving motor could make more power with the turbo setup then the 3.1 i had or the 3.3l i just built.im in no means in a hurry to do this, its just one of those spare time projects really.
but when i do it its gonna be a twin turbo setup street and strip

Heh, yea… it was my b-day… old fart… yep… not a clue how someone noticed that but thanks (wife got me a blast cabinet, getting older can’t be all bad, can it? )

Grumpy… donno about grumpy, maybe a little frustrated… I like to see correct info and answers on the boards, makes them more useful when you’re trying to find something/learn something (I also hope that any effort to do so by me is returned by someone when I’m trying to figure something out), so I get frustrated when questions are asked in a way that they don’t have a correct answer or are so vague that any answer could be explained as correct. That and based on the last few threads daves12secV6 started that I got in involved in he tends to be a bit of a moving target making things harder… hell, I have a couple of old threads of his open that _I still_ intend to reply to to nail down a real answer to (they must be a couple of months old now).
