Open downpipe or run a muffler on a Turbo car?
For you guys running turbos in your 3rd gen,
Are you runnnig open downpipe(s) or are you running full exhaust (cats, mufflers, etc.) after the turbo?

well i think it is personal choice you know depending on how you plan to use the car... i mean a daily driver i would throw on something wether it is something like purple hornies or thrush glass packs... something probably not a flowmaster or other chamber muffler. but then again somepeople think the turbo quiets the exhaust down enough all by it self

Down pipes through open boom tubes. Links to vids/sound clips in my dyno thread here, and boom tube fab thread in the exhaust board. Open dumps too... It's a bit loud for street driving.

I have an electric cut out where the factory cats were. Then i have a slp cat back. Very nice sound with the cutout closed, not too loud at all. Then its really loud with the cut out open, best of both worlds. I get 3-4 more lbs of boost with the cut out open, proving that mufflers do restrict somewhat.

On my TTA I had a dump before the cat, with an electric cutout. Worked great! Mostly helps exhaust restricted cars. A good 3 in exhaust, hi flo cat and 3 in dp should get very close to the electric dump(performance wise).

on my subaru i have a stock cat-back and then when i want to make some noise it has a 3inch cut out. If its a race car, just run an open dp it will make some serious top end

I like BDR's setup in that vid there but I am concerned that if I go with a muffler that is too loud my car will become a cop magnet, and the cops here are ******.
I want something quiet yet not hurt flow too badly. My Camaro will be driven on the street as my summer car and prolly a few strip passes.

From http://www.skulte.com/z28tt/archives..._testing.html:
This afternoon I drove over to my old place of employment, and we used the nice spectrum analyzer to check the sound level for the upcoming LimeRockPark time trials. From 50' to the side, it's at 75 dBa at idle, and 92.5 at 5000 rpms. From the rear, it's 83 at 2500 and 87 at 5000. Inside I get 95 dBA at 5000. LRP's limit is 83 at 50' and 1000 rpm shy of redline. My next option is to put a deflector plate aiming the exhaust at the ground, to see if that helps. If not, then a muffler, or just short shift it.
Exhaust summary: iron manifolds, turbos, 2.5" downpipes, 3.5" y-pipe, to ovalized tubing, and out the side with a 1.5"x8" boom tube.
