Turbo Third gen in GM High Tech this month.

I got my copy of GM High Tech recently and was surprised to see an article on a single turbo 91 Formula in there that ran high 10s. I loved to read this article, but wish it went a little more in depth. It said the owner got the tune for his chip from here. I am wondering if anyone here know the guy? It was a good low buck build of the engine and great results with the power adder.

Is the car white? I think TurboTPI's car was going to be in a mag. and runs 10's with a single on the TPI block.

congrats on the mag spread.

on a similiar note I emailed Camaro Performers a while back to see if they would do a similiar thing for my car. They told me to 'spruce up' my interior a little more.. I didnt want it in readers rides but I guess thats where its going to go. Hands down my interior looks better then a stock interior but I guess their rules are more stringent.

Thanks man. Yeah, i think the "stock" look is what was the cool thing about my car. Cause my interior is all stock besides the pillar gauges and a 4th gen trans am monsoon cd player.

yea that car is definitely sleeper with no aftermarket shifter, tach, etc. Although the boost guage and A/F guage gives it away a little . Just seeing it on the street you'd never guess, although even with the way mine looks people still don't recognize that it could be fast, I guess all thirdgens are slow.

after my initial pissed off comments on seeing your car in a mag with a stock interior.. I sat and read the article.. I can see also why.. $6500 DIY.. not bad, especially runnin 10.7 ETs. Thats pretty impressive with what you put together. Good writeup also. Its definitely a mag worthy car.

Hey TurboedTPI,

Care to go into a little more detail on your set up? Is it thrown together or did you carefully plan out the whole thing. What kinda hard parts are you running? I am especially interested in the exhaust set up. Tell me how you got all that to work and who made it???

Thanx for representing us poncho owners.

It was kind of thrown together i guess. But i had a pretty good idea what i wanted to do. The ehuast= It has an edlebrock drivers shorty header, a custom mandrel cross over pipe to the bbs turbo header. Then it has a custom 3in mandrel bent down pipe that ends where a fatory single cat f-body ends. Then i have an slp catback that i welded in an electric cut out in. I have the exhaust held up really tight. The deep trans pan is lower than any part of the exhaust. It turned out perfect. A local speed shop did the down pipe and crossover, AMS. They have the fastest street driven Evo right now in the world.(i guess)

Re: Turbo Third gen in GM High Tech this month.

Page 26 I believe.

I keep the issue next to the crapper for some light reading after Taco Bell.

I am amazed how you can fit all that exhaust pipe in the small engine bay we have. Where exactly does that crossover pipe connect in at? I see your engine bay is pretty stripped though. No A/C, Batt. in the trunk I assume. No emmisions equipment to speak of and heater hoses are no where to be seen.

Question: That belt routing you have there is interesting. How did you work the ribbed belt around a normally smoother tensioner pulley? Got a belt number on that?

The crossover goes under the oil pan then up to the turbo header. Very simple if you could see it. I am, working on getting an a/c delete heater box, but yeah, right now, its pretty stripped. The belt routing was totally guess work. I cut the a/c bracket so the turbo fit and just tried a bunch of belts i had in the garage. I beleive the belt is from an LT1 buick road master. The tensioner is a nonribbed pulley and the ribbed belt rides on it fine, Not one problem for 3 years now. I guess its ok. I would still like to get a ribbed pulley to put on the tensioner.

Thanks, the lil V6 goes ok but takes ALOT of boost

But in my opinion both our cars are pretty bad *** street cars and I like seeing some cool thirdgens getting attention in GMHTP instead of only lsx cars.

Then again I may have a thing for turbocharged thirdgen pontiacs

But in my opinion both our cars are pretty bad *** street cars and I like seeing some cool thirdgens getting attention in GMHTP instead of only lsx cars.

Then again I may have a thing for turbocharged thirdgen pontiacs
Thanks, i like steetable and fast thirdgens too. Yeah, those damn LSX cars! Gettin all the attention. haha. My family has a thing for turbos too, i guess. My brother has an 2001 S-10 4.3 with a syclone turbo setup on it, my dad has an 87 GN, and my dad might be getting my mom a new snowmoblie this year, and yes, its turbo too. haha
