Any Info on a D-1SC ProCharger Build
Im building a 305, please dont try to talk me out of it, already have a 385 Fastburn Motor in my other trans am....
The 305 is going into a V6 Car for the Swap
Motor is
305 Block, .30 Over
Stock Cast Iron Head, Ported w/ 3 Angle Valve Job
Federal Mogul Forged Pistons
Eagle Forged Rods
1.5 Roller Tip Rockers
Crane Cam & Lifters... Summit Part #-CRN-113822
...
Holley Stealth Ram Intake
Holley Fuel Rails
Holley 58mm Throttle Body
I want to use a ProCharger D-1SC w/ 6psi of Boost...
Anyone done anything like this before... talked to Procharger about it, they said it can be done with the stock heads but cant run more than 8psi
Any Suggestions, Comments, Ideas
What stall converter should I be using with a raptor 700r4, 2500 or 3500, more or less idk
I just wanna build a crazy supercharged 305, just to have some fun against some 350s etc

Re: Any Info on a D-1SC ProCharger Build
get some vortec heads or something, you're trying to flow a ton more air through a set of heads that already flow like crap NA. Also if you only want 6 psi, the P600b will do that easy and is about half the price of the P-1SC and D-1SC models. Not only that theres guys on here with stock motors pushing 10-13 psi withouth any problems. My suggestion since you're rebuilding the motor anyways, is to get some 8.5-9:1 pistons, some vortec heads, and run the P600b at around 12-15lbs of boost. Also dont forget you'll proba want some 36 or 42 lb injectors, and walbro 255lph pump and an FMU or AFPR that can been boost referenced. Keep the converter around 3000 or so and you'll be fine

Re: Any Info on a D-1SC ProCharger Build
What's your current compression ratio? I'd say that you'll get pretty bored with 6lbs of boost pretty quick so shoot for more right off the bat (8lbs at least), due to the boost curve on a centri blower.
The D1-sc flows way more than your mostly stock 305 can accept so it may be overkill for this application. The good thing about this is that you won't have to spin it very fast to make good boost, and you can put it on your fastburn motor later and have some real fun.
What gas are you going to run? Have you thought about methanol injection (its pretty cheap, good insurance against detonation and lowers IATs (good in conjuction with your efi setup)
I'm currently running 8lbs of boost with a P-1sc into a 9.1:1 sbc 350 and have had good results (currently in the process of adding an intercooler and more boost). Good luck with the buildup!!

I was debating between the gm vortec heads or going with something like the trick flow aluminum 23 degree heads... anyone anything about these....
I know ill get bored with the 6psi so i would like to boost 12-15psi but might be a good to start at 6 or 8 b/c im new to the supercharging thing.

hey ghost, what intercooler are you going with, the 2 or 3 core one... also whats your 350 running with your setup... stock heads, intake, and cam or is it something different....also you know anything about what I posted above

Re: Any Info on a D-1SC ProCharger Build
I'm bought one of the ebay 4" thick intercoolers and I'm fabbing up some 3" aluminium piping. The procharger intercoolers are less than optimal from what I've read and quite pricey. My intercooler and piping w/silicone couplers cost me $270 brand new.
Aluminium heads will allow you to run a few more lbs of boost compared to iron and will certainly flow alot better. I'm using vortech heads (stock) and they work great now at 8lbs. After I'm done with the front mount intercooler I'm going to have to upgrade them to screw in rocker studs and higher pressure springs (Comp 918s). The pressed in studs on vortech's and most other stock style heads have been known to loosen up in higher performance applications. I'd say the trick flows would probably be worth 50+ hp with 6lbs boost, and a bunch more 100+ when you crank it up to 12-15psi. Keep in mind that 6psi with the trick flows (with better flow) represents alot more airflow than 6psi with the stockers. Boost is a measure of resistance, so slapping the trick flow heads on and leaving everything else the same will actually lower you boost while most likely raising your power output. Neat stuff. 6psi on a stocker is not the same airflow as 6psi with high performance heads.
My car put down 404rwhp on a dyno dynamics dyno, and on the street it's got a ton of top end. Thats the thing about centri superchargers, the way mine's set up I get 8lbs of boost but not untill 5000+ rpms, that's why I think you'll be really bored with 6lbs on a 305. Low end tourque is certainly improved but is nothing like a roots or twin screw or even a well setup turbo, but then again getting the power to the ground is alot easier with centri than the others (unless you're planning on running slicks and a better rearend.
Any other ?s you might have, feel free to post 'em up

Re: Any Info on a D-1SC ProCharger Build
i have a quick side Q, since you guys are talking about street blowers and so on...
I have a 386, fully forged, T-56 and moser 12 bolt with 4.11s. I dynoed at 350 to the wheels (TQ and HP). I really like having low end TQ but wanna shoot for 450 to the wheels. I also have a 3" cervini hood.
Do you think a small roots blower will get me there with minimal issues and without dropping my MPG, this is my daily driver 3 seasons out of the year. Thanks.
Sorry for the quick hijack, I will start my own thread about this after I get this quicky outta the way. thx.

Re: Any Info on a D-1SC ProCharger Build
Weiand's new blowers (there's an older 142 for sale in the classifieds right now)would definitely do the trick, but you can probably forget about keeping your gas milage the same. I know their latest generation has a bypass that improves milage under light loads, but the additional air crammed into the engine under load will need more fuel, and there will be parasitic losses from the blower itself that will lower your BSFC (a reasonable measure of loaded engine efficiency).
Dennis, What kind of budget are you working with? With a roots blown(6psi or so) 386 you are going to have a crapload of lowend torque (600+ ft/lbs) and most likely a bit of trouble getting it to hook with street tires and your 4.11s. Also, what's your compression ratio?

Re: Any Info on a D-1SC ProCharger Build
My CR is about 9.5 dynamic, static is around 10.5.
My budget is kinda funny. If the benefits are there I will gladly spend the 2 grand or so it takes to do this, but if I am going to be stuck with minimal results and in the ******* MPG, then I am just not going to do it. Right now my motor is built to happily take a 200 shot of N20, that I haven't even played with yet. I was just toying with the idea of a S/C. I hear that the centrifugal ones build more top HP, but that the roots have more TQ. I RARELY smash it to 5500, up by my MAX HP, so I figure more fun is to be had with more TQ. I just wanna be able to take Vettes and Vipers and still drive it to work everyday.
It is fast now, and probably makes about 360-375 RWHP since I installed the digital MSD 6 plus, pro billet dizzy and blaster coil. The motor revs way smoother and pulls harder. i just wanna push a few PSI since I am pretty close to my goal. I used to want 500 RWHP, but now that I see how fast the car already is, I think 400 should just about do it, haha.
As for hooking, it should be alright, since I will be running Nitto 555Rs shortly and the spec stage 3 clutch thats in there is real easy to shift and manage power. I rarely spin the tires up with how it is now.
You think this is a stupid idea? Or should I look into a simple turbo, sentrifugal, or just shut up and play with the N20 till I get bored???
If you wanna see all the details about my car visit my CD site. It is really long but most people have a good time looking though it. Got 40,000 hits so far, kinda cool, in a "who gives a crap" kinda way.

Re: Any Info on a D-1SC ProCharger Build
I think adding a small roots or twin screw blower is a graet idea. I often wish I had that huge low end grunt instead of the top end. Take a look at the new weiands, or buy a good used one and if you don't like the results you can always sell it a few months down the road and get your money back.
Its too bad the magnachargers and kenne-bells are so much coin, their added efficiency would be beneficial in your daily driver application.

MPG is the reason I wouldn't go with a supercharger. With a turbo, when you're not in boost, you have minimal parasitic loss, and the same (or a little less) gas milage. With a supercharger, it's under power all the time. I would allow $4K to do a boosted setup.

Re: Any Info on a D-1SC ProCharger Build
Yeah I can see the 4 grand if you are working with a stock style car. Thing is that this car allready has all the goodies like fuel supply, exhaust and stuff. All I am looking into is maybe a roots and a new carb. That I think would only be around 2500. But not that it matters. My MPG is already low enough as it is. Around the city, it is horrible. Esspecially on a Sat with nice weather when I lay into it a lot more. The highway is super, way up in the mid to high teens, easy.
When I get another car, then maybe I will go booseted. I hear there are pretty simple ways to go turbo without haveing it make all those annoying turbo noises. I herd all you really need to do is have the BOV vent into the intake again or something. I just hate that ppshheewww sound that they make. So importy.

You can recirculate it and it's supposed to get rid of almost all the noise.

yeah, that would be the only way I would go turbo.
But maybe I can just squeeze more out of what I got. 400-450 RWHP is kinda the limit for a home built carbed daily driver. More than that on a DD and you need F.I.
And personally on my budget, that swap would put me over the edge of DD. Just too much $ in the car at that point. I would start getting paranoid about where I drive it and who I park next to and all that.

I don't think you are going to go turbocharged or supercharged. I see nitrous in your future.

yeah me too, haha. I just bought a new plate and a bottle heater. I am thinking about geting my bottle painted and finding a cooler place to purge.
I know I have a lot of steriotypes associated with turbos, but its just that driving home I allways have little civics pull up next to me and ppssshhheewww..... gaayyyyy... make stpuid turbo noises at me. Then i see all the bondo on the car and keep driving.
