3.4 Turbo Project_Info Needed!
3.4 Turbo Project_Info Needed!
I'm thinking about turning my stock 95 3.4 Firebird into a turbo car. I don't want to have to modify the ECM at all. I'm told I can do this with only 5-6psi of boost. Is this true? Will I need bigger injectors for such low boost or can I just use an FMU? I have read that the CR is 9.0-1 with stock pistons. (info from gmperformanceparts.com) Using 5-6psi of boost what will my CR be? I may want to swap in the 3400 parts (Intake, Pistons and Heads) later. Also, I am unable to find any camshafts the can be computer controlled on the stock tune, does anyone know of any?

You'll want to talk to the guys at CamaroV6.com There's one guy selling all his 3.4L Turbo stuff.
I've turbo'd a 3.8L in a 98 Camaro for a customer but the 3.4's are a different breed.
You'll need HP Tuners for tuning, fuel pump and fabrication of the headers/downpipe and oil feed/return.
Good luck,
Scott~

You need to do tuning any time you plan on boosting an engine. I can't see why anyone would'nt retune the ecm any time they modified their engine. You need a rising rate fpr to compensate for boost. Larger injectors are a given, the stock ones are only safe to ~170hp. The 3.4's stock cr is about 9.3/1. The stock cam is a good choice for boost because it has -20* of valve overlap, but will limit your rpm potential. Look for cams with no valve overlap for boost.

I've looked all over the web and asked around and have found no tuners or really anything for the OBD 1.5 system. Who would I need to talk to about getting my ECM retuned?
Re: 3.4 Turbo Project_Info Needed!
OBD1.5 code has only been cracked by a couple of people, and not even completely.
You are better off going to OBD1, OBDII, or using a standalone ECM (like MegaSquirt).

I'm not even sure anyone has hacked into the 3.4 ecm. Your best bet would be to revert to a v6 '730 or get a megasquirt and a standalone trans computer.

I don't know if it's fully computer controlled, but he'll need something for tcc control anyway. I think the '700s that came behind v6s stayed mechanically-controlled longer than the v8 versions, but I could be wrong.
