Air inlet temp sensor for carb
How can I measure what my inlet temps are? Id like to see what they are at 8lbs of boost, then with meth injection to see if I need an intercooler or not.
Is there some sort of calculator for psi-temp raise? I use a centrifugal supercharger, so it wouldnt be as hot as a turbo.

I found a digital cyberdyne air temp gauge and sender on summit for 60 bucks. I really only need this for the dyno, to do some dyno tests, perhaps I better call the shop to see if he has a gauge that I could hook up.

Where are you planning on measuring? And where would the meth injection be? I'd put the temp sensor far enough after the planned spot for meth injection that you can accurately measure it - ie. in the intake manifold perhaps?
If you can get something like a Murphy switch-gage, ie something that will make a wire hot at xyz temperature, you can rig it up to turn on the meth at a certain adjustable air temp.

Well the gauge was 40, and the sensor by the same company is 17. Its cyberdyne, the cheapest they had, not sure how good they are. Or how responsive it is. If Im right in my thinking, the air will heat up as quick as the engine will rev and boost is made. So it needs to react as quick as a tach. Sounds kinda demanding to me....but maybe not.
----------
I have the snow performance progressive controller which throws more meth as it sees boost, that should work just as well I would think. Im not sure where Im going to mount the meth jet yet, but I was planning on putting the sensor at the base of the carb hat. Although in the intake below the carb, where the fuel would also cool the air might be a better spot. Its a single plane, so I have some room.

Re: Air inlet temp sensor for carb
Those are cheap sending units.
When I start building up my buddies TT SBC I think i'll grab a pile of those sending units as well as pyrometers and pressure sensors, and hook them all up to a laptop to log the values and chart them vs RPM or speed or something. Then I can measure temperature rise through turbos, drop through intercooler, boost drop, etc etc etc. The more info you have right?

Re: Air inlet temp sensor for carb
It is cheap, but I really only need it to work for the dyno so I can tune the car. Once I see what the temps are, I can decide whether or not to add an aftercooler.
I dont want to run too much methanol, I dont want to run the stuff on the street. I really wont need to, dont really need over 600hp for the road. So I dont want to be constantly changing main jets and retuning my carb from track to street. Id rather just retard my timing.
Im going to start with 10 psi for the track, but leave it down around 5-6 for the road. I may have to change jets anyway, well see.
It would be a lot of work to rig up an aftercooler, I just came across the idea of using a small shot (50) of nos to cool the intake charge. It would cost about the same, and hardly any work to install.
That is of course I need more cooling than just meth at 10psi.

I cant believe theres not some sort of calculator for the rise in air temp with pressure??? I cant find anything.
