^ I wanted to build a '88 Sledgehammer too, as well as the '89 454 ZR2 "Big Doggie" Corvette, now I'm just settling for the boosted '91 Formula lol....

Those two cars set the bar. The Sledgehammer was about as fast as you can go with street-drivability and refinement. The Banks TT Trans Am was about as far as you can go in something that looks like a street car from the outside. Both were built by people who are basically visionaries in the industry. They so completely blew away what was considered "possible" that there really wasn't much left to do after that but recognize the achievements and move on.
I think it's going to be a while before anyone else builds something that captures the imagination and resets everyone's thinking the way those two cars did back in the day. If you were reading car magazines back then you DO remember these cars. It was so wildly beyond anything you could wrap your brain around you were just never quite the same again. And they did it starting with production line cars you could buy at your local dealership- just Detroit muscle cars, not exotic hand-built European prototypes built by Formula 1 teams.
So what's amazing and captivating today? A TRUE Production Line Corvette that's going to push past the 200 MPH barrier straight off the showroom floor next year (the new ZR1). Tell me THAT'S not getting pretty damned close to incredible!

The guy that was my trainer for Young Drivers way back in 87 gave me a video on the Callaway Corvette. I wonder if this is the same vid, I can't see it from work hehe! Youtube is Blocked.
