okay for a 305 run like a T67 or a T70. Masterpower makes a cheap affordable good turbo.
For manifolds you could try to find a BBS designs kit used OR buy the ebay headers (point forward ones) You may need to modify the back tube on the drivers side to go around the steering shaft.

The just build a merge off the headers to the turbo. If you have some welding skills its not all that bad to do.

Injectors if your staying around like a 400hp build some 42#s should do the work.

Wastegate, you will prob need a 50MM wastegate to hold 7psi. I bought the X02 racing 50mm as alot of people on the theturboforums.com have had luck with them and there about 150us.

If it is a stock motor I would say run an intercooler and possible meth kit if you can afford it.

ECM i have no idea as I have an LT1 swap in mine.

A single on the passenger side using something like this:
http://xs-power.com/gm-turbo-manifolds-3.htm
or something from BBS Designs would work.

Throw a T4 turbine with a 60 - 70mm compressor inducer on top of the manifold.
Get a 50mm or 38mm wastegate off Ebay or SSAC
Some Ford (cheap) 42 #/hr injectors
Walbro 255lph pump
GM 730ecm with $59 code
2-bar map sensor
Ebay 12x24x4 intercooler
some couplings and clamps from www.siliconestop.com (cheapest around)
some down pipe pieces and clamps.
Some oil lines (in & out)
Pump, check valve, fittings from www.coolingmist.com

For under $1500 you could have all the above including IC and alky/water injection and have a turbo good for up to 600-700HP. A stock 305ci TPI high compression (9.5:1) engine could easily make over 400 BHP using that setup with 91-93 octane pump gas.
You can always up the boost and make more HP later on when you run better gas or lower the compression.

do you guys think its gonna blow up. it smokes because it needs gaskets some oil leaking into the cylinders. or will this not effect anything. has an ocassional misfire. wondering what max boost on a 305 tpi would be also.

No one can answer if it will blow. If it helps, I have a 1986 305ci TPI with 130K+ miles on it. All bone stock with a DIY turbo kit. I run around 11-12PSI right now.

Dude...you want to put a turbo (even a DIY setup) on a motor that needs gaskets, is leaking oil into the cylinders and misfiring???!!!

Not telling you what to do, but you need to atleast make sure your motor is in decent running condition. If the idea that it will blow up is even remotely in your mind, you have some work to do before you start adding boost.

There are quite a few threads around here with junkyard and DIY turbo builds. I would spend a few hours searching around. Find the guys that are running them now, and ask lots of questions.

Ive seen guys get fairly decent results for pretty cheap on a stock motor. Just gotta do your homework and build away.

J.

More than likely your valve seals, very easy fix....

My 305ci TPI would smoke on startup. When I installed the turbo setup I put new valve seals in it. Total cost was about $20. It doesn't smoke anymore. Some of the seals were completely gone. Pretty much expected that for a 1986 engine.

Re: the trans am's gettin a turbo please help

man I feel like everyone is saying 42 lbs injectors is a small injector and cant support much power. I guess that not many people can tune that well or I am awful lucky. I have yet to dyno it but for the mph it is making we are guessing 550 to 600 rwhp. any way the reason I decided to chime on in is your engine management. You need to swap over to a 730 or 749 ecm and run code $59. That will allow you to tune up to 30lbs of boost with a 3 bar map. I run it on mine with a 730 ecm. see sig for combo but I will say it runs pretty good for a home built setup. I have pictures all over power adder forum just search under my name. Pics of it from start to finish. I will say I am out of injector at 7 lbs of boost and 50 lbs of fuel pressure and should go to a 60 lbs injector so I can run the 12 lbs I want to run.

42 lb injectors at that fuel pressure will do the HP you mentioned just fine.
