Going to be putting a nitrous kit on my 84 z28 next week and was wondering were and how some of you nitrous guys mounted your bottle? Any pics and or advise you can give will be appreciated!

I mounted it in the spare tire area. Out of sight from prying eyes. Sorry, no picture but you can imaging what it looks like.

 

Good idea, never thought about mounting the bottle there, I will have to look into that.

I was also thinking of putting it sideways in the lower rear trunk area, but dont know if this would cause any problem? Any of you guys have any idea about this?

 

its best to have the bottom of the bottle facing the rear and downward, that way the pickup tube is always covered.
i have mounted bottles other ways and never had a prob.
i think the spare tire area is a good one, be sure to get a remote bottle opener.

 

I think it would look good if you mounted it on top of the hump , with the valve pointed forward, just above where the fuel pump is located. that way it would be right there in the dead center of the rear window to show off.

 

I mounted the bottle in my 2001 is the cargo area sideways. I never had an issue. If you are runing the bottle that low for it to be problematic, Than you should have filled the bottle before that pass. I would have mounted it in my 2001 spare tire area but I didn't like the feeling of being 2-400 miles away and not having a spare tire. Just to have nitrous with me.

 

Thats kind of what I was thinking but I was not for sure, I would rather have it mounted in the lower hatch area, but again im not going to be running a huge amount of nitrous. But I would rather be safe than sorry. I think im going to go with the rear cargo area.

Have you used a remote bottle opener? I bought one of those holley sniper kits do they have one for it?

 

I have mine in the spare tire area aswell. When I go on long trips, I put the spare tire and jack in the back seat area... I have the sniper kit aswell, but for EFI and the bottle openers generally work for all nitrous bottles. I made my own one...

 

I ended mounting it in the rear lower luggage compartment, It looks really good back there so I hope it work out ok. The car is only a street machine anyway so it should be fine I hope.

here's mine in the valley i use an off bottle remote

 

when the bottle is mounted this way you should really have the valve rotated twords the front of the car say about 1:30. this wat the pick up tube in the bottle is at the lowest point when the car is launched

 

i dont use it its mainly for show they tell you to mount it towards the front so the NO2 can flow to the tube better so you don't lose line pressure

it's worked fine as long as you really don't let the bottle get to low

 

I mounted my 10# bottle in the spare tire area, but in an unusuall way.

First, I made a base out of a piece of 2x4 and a small plastic paint bucket. I cut the 2x4 to fit in the bottom section at the angle I wanted and screwed the plastic bucket to it at the proper location.

Then, I used film plastic to cover the area and filled the void with some spray foam (like you get at home depot) to make a "cup holder" in the lower area. I folded the excess plastic film into the bucket to make it nice and neat.

Next, I mounted one of the supplied brackets to the spare tire bracket. The base of the bottle fits into the "cup holder" snug and the top bracket holds it in place. It makes it real easy to change bottles since I only have to access one bolt.

The bottle is tilted forward at the top at a slight angle so I don't have any problem with nitrous delivery. I can use the bottle til it's down to 3-4 pounds. I put a 90' elbow on the gauge so it's easilly visable when the trim piece is pulled out. All I have to do to turn the bottle on/off is to raise the hatch, pull the trim piece out enough to turn the valve.

approximately 45° toward the front of the vehicle (Figure 3D). This orientation will position the siphon tube toward the rear of the

I have mounted three bottle's in the spare tire well, one on an 84 camaro and two in 2000 and 2002 trans ams. havent' had any problems with it. just gotta make a mounting plate for the brackets and an angle drill helps alot.
