Boost, How Much ?
Boost, How Much ?
Hi,
I have a 383 stroker with forged internals, aluminum heads, holley SR & 950pro ECU the engine is just a hair under 10.1 compression I'm going to be installing a procharger with intercooler and wanted to know with the compression I have how much boost can I run and still be on the safe side? I was told 9lb would be "ok" would like some advice
thanks

Re: Boost, How Much ?
Procharger says 15#'s with 9.5:1 compression, you have forged internals which is a plus

Re: Boost, How Much ?
altitude?
camshaft?
head style?
I would like 6-9psi is "safe". I think even intercooled, 15psi on 10:1 CR is wayyy too much, even with 91 octane.
But that's why new driven sprokets are so cheap, you just swap to get the right boost level.

Heres the fully details on the engine, altitude not sure? Illinois is that gives you any thing?

Re: Boost, How Much ?
I think 6-9psi is pushing it.
That's 10:1 with a very tame cam. Even intercooled, you won't get much boost.

Re: Boost, How Much ?
dude 10#'s should be safe, i'm pushing 14# on a stock bottom end 9.5:1 305 short block, as long as your tune is good you should be fine.

Re: Boost, How Much ?
8-10psi if you change the cam, and have proper quench.
That cam is going to put the DCR too high. You'll end up having to lock your advance in around 22 degrees.

Re: Boost, How Much ?
I would think it would be fine. LT1 kits make around 6-8 psi and they're 10:1. Run a bad tune and too much timing and it'll surely detonate though.
