I have a stock 87 GTA with an L98 5.7L in it. The engine runs pretty strong as it is. We plan on re-building a weekend warrior engine sometime in the next year or so. However, we want some fun at the track until then. Anyone have some affordable, yet effective Nitrous setup suggestions?

Looks to be fine tuned for a true stock L98..........perfect!!!

 

Anyone have experience with this kit? The manual explains that the kit is set up for an entirely stock engine (timing, computer, etc). This is perfect for my setup, just wondering if anyone has first hand experience.

 

I don't have that EXACT kit but I do have ALL those components including the throttle body plate installed on my car. Its a good settup and it hits HARD. It hits harder than a intake fogger nozzle. I have a 125hp shot. I haven't retarded the timing or anything like that. Just make sure you don't go lean and have sufficient fuel pressure (*cough* *cough* fuel pump)...

 

i have the same kit but don't use it since i have a blower on the motor and its stock so i would like to keep my rods intact lol but it's adjutable so start out small and when you feel comfortable change the jets for a bigger shot and like HRC said colder plugs and less timing and watcht the fuel pressure good luck

 

I was stoked after reading the instruction manual, they claim it is all designed for a dead stock engine. Tom, are you considering selling the kit since you don't use it?

I have to chase down this Engine Light, fix the EGR, and install a new FPR (to be safe) before I go with the NO2, but it will be soon.

 

yeah, those would be good places to start. It will work just fine on a bone stock engine but just like boost, its just a estimate multiplier of power. That means the more mods (boltons) you do, the better reaction you'll get. When I first got the kit, I wanted to run 125shot but I could only run about 50-60hp shot because my old factory fuel pump couldn't supply the necessary fuel pressure. So I decided to swap out the fuel pump for a Walbro, now I can run 125shots all day....I also have a AFPR so I can bump up the fuel pressure when at the track...

 

What were your 1/4 mile time gains from running the 125 shot?

 

last time I went I went from 15.5 to about 14 with the NOS...

it depends, what engine and what years. Some Tuneports got the peanut cams others got different heads and such. Some are fast, some are not, generally though, the "later" the thirdgen, the better the engine...

with only 4-500 bucks not really. that might buy used headers and exhaust. but a cheap simple nitrous setup will be ~500 without safety features.

if you go the n2o route remember there is no set "tune" for all stock l98s. Pull X* of timing out (the hole 2* per 50 is barely a starting point), colder plugs, 91+ octane, and don't run lean OR RICH. tune the a/f for NA and try to keep close to the same a/f when spraying. The ONLY way to tune your nitrous is to check plugs, no ifs and or buts about it.
