What turbo?
Hey guys i been lookin at some of the cheaper turbos around like the borg warners an a master powers t70-t76..My setup that i have isnt exactly boost friendly but i just want tops 10psi more then likely 6-8 psi (all intercooled). its a 383 11.1 compression trick flow heads 530 508 cam made just under 500 na crank hp trying to give her about another 200.. its all forged rockin arp everywhere.
ah crap if mods can move this idk why i put this in carbed! thanks

Re: What turbo?
Running that high of compression is HORRIBLE for a turbo. You want a low compression ratio for forced induction

Re: What turbo?
yes i know its horrible but people put turbos an supers on stock lt1 an ls1s.. they hold up fine im not trying to do allot of boost.. like i said like 8lbs of intercooled boost.. in the end if i need to change the pistons i can do that... but back to the original question wat turbo would suit me best!

Re: What turbo?
cheap and still good enough for some power, master power T76. Probably could support 700hp on that 383 just need to get compression down.
YOu can change heads for 75-76 cc chambers if you have 64's now. That will get you near 9.8 to 1. Can probably run 10 psi on that and get near 650-700 hp if the heads/intake can flow. Would not run more than that unless you get a meth injection kit but it may take 12-14psi. Would have to try but 10 psi is ALL you will need. Also if your ring gap is fairly tight for n/a built, then it wont like too much boost so 10psi is all i'd do.
borg warner S400 stuff is great but its a MASSIVE turbo and harder to fit in the engine bay. Can be done but definately need to brace that thing. Its like 50 lbs i've heard.
Check out Jay's build here. It was a 383 with a single S400 I believe that made 580whp on only 8-9 psi with a ok tune.
There are a couple other 76-78mm units that are about a grand that would work well.
S400 and master power 76mm are your best budget bets. I like the S400 stuff since you can get it on a 1.1 to 1.32 a/r on the turbine side. Master power P trim is rather small with its .96 a/r but it would spool up very very fast. Makes a pretty good street setup. They have a Q trim with a 1.1 a/r but i dont know to much about it. The P trim master power would probably limit your rpms to mid 5000 range as I dont think a small T4 like that would support alot higher rpms without some backpressure issues. 3" downpipe for a 600whp build is getting on the small side.

Re: What turbo?
good idea on changing out the heads instead that would prolly be cheaper an easier to sell off my old ones! i dont think i want a borg cause this car is being setup for handling not drag racing tho i wouldnt mind hittin a 9 second pass if it at all possible. so it looks to be the t76 then thanks for your input

Re: What turbo?
Get a head with a large chamber. 75-76 cc will give 9.8 to 1. Could possibly make 600 whp on good tune with good heads.
Whats the duration on the cam? Whats the LSA? May need to change cam to optimize. What intake manifold are you running? Getting near 9's needs good flowing heads and intake, and good intercooled boost. Keep it cool and you'll have less worries about detonation. May beable to get more boost on 9.8 to 1 and run abit more timing with a cooler charge. If its all forged, i'd go with AFR 210's with a 75cc chamber or something similar. Good intake manifold ported to match to cause no restrictions. More air you got goin in the better
I got 195's on my 401 but will change to 220's someday.
