Hey guys, i am in the process of finish piecing together my turbo kit, i have a master power t-70 .96 ar, i built my own single turbo headers from my 1 1/2 summit headers with 2.5 crossover pipe, victor jr intake with blow thru holley 750 dp, 2.5" intercooler pipes with 36x12x3 intercooler, 3" downpipe to 3" borla exhaust and CSU carb hat and msd 6al-2 programmable aeromotive 132-02 regulator and walbro 255 intank pump, procomp 190cc heads. For the cam i will call comp and have them custom grind me a hydraulic roller cam when i get to that point.
As you can see i'm trying to build this engine on the budget side but i want a bottom end that can handle a bit of power. My goal is 500 to 550 rwhp through a t56 with around 8-12psi.I do not plan on winding this thing past 6500-7000rpms. Since my comp. is too high right now, 9.6:1, i have to replace pistons plus they are only hype. flat tops.
It will be a 4bolt main 355 and i want my compression around 8.7-9.0:1 with the 64cc heads.
My question is as followed: Is it safe to run 550rwhp out of a stock 3.480 crank eagle h-beam rods and forged pistons? what pistons could i go with that will handle the power and wont cost me an arm and a leg?? i was looking at some forged speed pro but i didnt find any dish forged pistons.
I will be putting the engine together myself and after balancing the bottom end i will be gapping the top two rings to about .026-.028". And will be using ARP main studs as well as ARP head studs.

8-12 psi and wont have to go over 6000 rpm on a 355 motor to make your power goals.
stock steel crank will do good with eagle h beams. i ran those rods to that power level before to 6800 rpm...they are good to 700+ with good bolts.
Try to find some SRP dish pistons to 9 to 1 compression or so. Not too pricey but good pistons.
ARP studs are good choice. It will make that bottom end plenty strong. just work the tune and it will be fine.

I can't speculate on how your setup will work because I only have "one" turbo build under my belt.
I will say that I'm running 9 psi thru a stock ZZ4 short block that's been zero clearanced. Hyper flat top pistons ~9.3:1 IIRC.
From the sound of it your engine will be better prep'd than mine and I haven't had any problems so far. I don't know how much power I'm making but I've maxed out my 4, 95 lb/hr injectors.
I will say that I'm running 9 psi thru a stock ZZ4 short block that's been zero clearanced. Hyper flat top pistons ~9.3:1 IIRC.

i found these srp pistons for 350 .030 over inverted dome and 8.5:1 with 64cc heads. i did not see anywhere that says they are forged http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SRP-P...Q5fAccessories

summit/jegs has forged dished srp piston for over $100 less than that ebay price...i'll be going with a set of those for my build and as Orr89Rocz said, they're real good pistons just not as pricey as JE, Ross, Mahle etc. As for rod bolts, arp L19 or better and you're good to go

Yes, it is safe. My buddy Paul has been running the stock cast roller assembly for the last six years in his Grand National, has hundreds of passes @ almost up to 30-psi, and has driven around daily @ up to 20-psi throughout that entire time. It was only two weeks ago in which he cracked a piston, but hey, that is what 600HP will do to a stock piston after all those years of abuse. Detonation control is the key. Summit has the speed pro forged pistons here. I use the same ones.
summit/jegs has forged dished srp piston for over $100 less than that ebay price...i'll be going with a set of those for my build and as Orr89Rocz said, they're real good pistons just not as pricey as JE, Ross, Mahle etc. As for rod bolts, arp L19 or better and you're good to go
