I'll bet ninety percent of the carnage from turbo car's on this board have to do with an overheated ring pinching a piston, with detonation always being used as the scapegoat because it is easier to blame. Very glad to hear you're running that much boost w/cast parts on E85. Honestly wish I can convert, but New Jersey has hardly any E85 stations, if any at all anymore. Great job...

PS.... where are the recent vids?

Re: Got turbo? It's time for me

Yeah I’m pretty fortunate to have E85 all around where I live. I have 3 turbo cars (2 Hondas) and run it in all of them. It’s funny my S2000 and my Iroc are pretty much tied in a roll race with the S2K at 20psi. The Honda feels so much faster being a manual trans but amazingly the Iroc hangs right with it even though it feels so slow and boring lol.
I haven’t made very many Iroc videos this year, but there are few newer ones on my YouTube channel.
The Iroc got the snot beat out of it at Powercruise and never missed a beat. My friend Mike blew up his turbo LS swapped Dakota the day before the event so I offered for him to run home and grab the Iroc so he wasn’t bumming so much all weekend. I was feeling pretty good considering I had two cars up there and they both came home without any major issues!

How is your car runnng?

I just subscribed to your channel...

Mine is getting there very slowly. I honestly can't get over how the cost went up for ebay parts, Intercoolers in particular. Years back I think I paid one hundred shipped for a FMIC with a 4" core and 3" inlet/outlet's. I wanted to get my hands on one having the inlet and outlet on the same side, with the same dimensions, and I was like whoa... maybe I'll stick with the one I already have. It's insane.

Quite the thread you have going sir. You give me hope for my GM 350 short block! I was nervous about running 10-12 lbs but not after reading this!

It’s funny you say that about EBay stuff because I haven’t noticed that at all. I just bought a 3” thick core bar and plate intercooler about 2 yrs ago for the Honda and I believe it was around $100 shipped. Wastegates are still dirt cheap ($50-$100) too, at least the stuff I have seen. I have yet to have any issues with any of the eBay stuff I have ran, the original wastegate has been on the camaro now for like 6 years and tens of thousands of miles and I haven’t even touched it.

Re: Got turbo? It's time for me

It might be the brand then, because the two turbo's I went with originally years back (72mm & 76mm both.96 a/r) were about three hundred to the door. Now the turbo's themselves, same size, are close to six hundred. Same with the IC, I can find a 3" core with 2 1/2" inlet and outlet for a hundred and change, but once I come across a 4" core with 3" inlet and outlet, the price is closer to three hundred, if not more, and I remember spending a mere one hundred. I guess they have proven themselves over the years, so the demand shouldn't really surprise me. But damn lol...

Re: Got turbo? It's time for me

Theres a few 200$ and under in 4” core 3” inlet. The 300$ ones are mishimoto and those really arent that cheap of a cooler. They actually do make ok stuff it seems. Cxracing is still 198$

There are a few vendors that try to sucker a sale by way overlisting the same coolers. Theres one on there for 415 and 1217$ haha basic 200$ cxracing

Re: Got turbo? It's time for me

Yeah what’s with the random over priced stuff? I doubt they sell many but I guess if the get someone to fall for it every once in a while it’s worth it. I’ve never bought anything other than the cheapest bar/plate intercooler I could find on eBay for all three of the cars I’ve turbo’d. They seem to work well IAT-wise but I wonder if there could be much difference in restriction vs a “name brand” much more expensive intercooler. I’d be surprised if there was a significant difference but maybe. I’d assume the cores gotta be pretty similar.

Ha well I’m not familiar with your setup but my 17 psi isn’t really making that much power since I’m running mediocre flowing Vortec heads and a small cam. I don’t spin it past 6K and it’s probably making around 500 whp. I guess it’s still decent for an all cast stock bottom end SBC but I’m sure guys have ran higher without issue and others with carnage at lower hp levels. My engine has the newer style powdered metal rods which I’m not really sure if that’s a good thing or not.

One thing nice is that it’s a pretty good bang for the buck combo for a gen 1 SBC . I’m ok without an LS

everything in my signature is what i have done to mine. Im only running 6PSI on a V3, but my IAT's are only 15-18 degress higher after a 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear street pull (and thats with the IAT before the meth nozzle) Mine did 430whp with a "super lean" 12.5 AFR, and very conservative timing table. I keep mine bellow 6100RPM to hopefully keep it alive. I looked up the PN on the rods a while back and they said they were good for "500 horsepower" per GM. Im with you, SBC ftw!

I can't see much about your setup. What are the details? Heads/cam/intake? What are you running for fuel? And what's your total timing under boost? Do you have any 1/4 mile times or trap speed? Do you have the powered rods or the "pink" rods?

Edit - never mind now I can see your details (was on my phone before). Now I get why you made 430 at only 6 psi. Better heads and cam will do that!

i dont recall total timing under load, but its very conservative with alot left on the table. I wanted to stay with the vortec's but by the time i was done with machine work, screw in studs, retainers, ect i was half the way to to a set of blue print heads that i could slap springs in.
