Turbo 1991 z28 with A/C - Twin tc76
well i suppose it's time to start a build thread
I've got a 1991 z28 with a zz4 long block HSR backed by a t56 that will remain in the car until i get the whole turbo setup on and running on low boost, then it will come out and get forged pistons/rods.
I will be running a single tc76 in the battery location, keeping the a/c, 1 5/8" primaries, 2.5" crossovers, 3" downpipe.
Turbo: tc76 ar.96
WG: JGS 50mm
BOV: JGS 60mm
i'll be starting as soon as my headers come in, and i'll try to keep this thread updated with pictures. For now here are some pics:
BOV JGS 60mm:

Re: Parts are coming in! tc76 1991 z28 w/ A/C
thanks for the encouraging words guys, i spent a ton of time dreaming and planning my combo (2 years...) so it's good to not hear i've picked to badly mismatched parts!
I'm going to try to use $59 (i think thats it) on the stock computer. I'm already speed density so i'm going to try some 60# or 80# injectors, dual walboros, and hopefully can get it tuned. I'm sure i'll be here on the board for tons of help but it shouldn't be too hard. If i can't tune it myself there are a few guys in houston i can go to get it figured out.
I've also tossed the e85 idea around but that requires a MUCH bigger fuel system = $$$ thats not in the budget right now. Also e85 is not at enough stations by me to make me ok with it for a street car.
BUILD UPDATE: Waiting on headers still, the place has given me the run around so i cant get started on anything yet. I'm going to do the hotside and oil lines first so i can move the car around the shop n/a while i finish the rest. can't hog the lift!

I'm still in houston and I have abit of experience with the code $59. I could give you some pointers and some help on setting up base maps and such.

well my 60mm jgs bov is not sealing, i was looking at it today because i was bored and i can see light between the valve and the seat
i'm gonna call them tomorrow and hopefully get a replacement. i searched and it seems they stand behind their product so i should be ok.

the headers 1 5/8" primary block huggers. I'm going to flip them upside down, so i can run the DP under them. i like that they will be symmetrical on driver/pass sides, and if i ever want to go TT i can put another tc76 where the evap canister is and really make some power.

UPDATE:
My BOV came back from JGS, they fixed it for free because it was a manufacturing error. Great, fast service from the guys at JGS.
Headers are in, I'll try to get some pics of them up tonight, and I'll start fabbing the hot side this weekend unless something comes up!

Thanks, i hope it all come together like i'm planning.
yeah it a t-top. i just painted the tops like the rest of the car, primer, sealer, base, clear. Just scratch the tops up with 220 grit or so before you spray.

i will be putting the headers on, picking the turbo's final position in the car, and working on the hot-side tonight and tomorrow. I'll keep updating this thread with pics as things get done.

Which Sanderson headers are those?
I'm doing a very similar setup with a T76 using an S400/T6 flange .96AR and the turbo is huge, even to fit in the battery area I'm gonna have to trim some stuff. Thise headers look like what I was going to try and build.

i did take out my a/c box but I could have fit it down there with my 3"dp. but i've seen oval 4" fit too. I've got my wastegate pipe running right under my exhaust manifold straight to the down pipe. it MAY fit in there too.

Re: *NEW PICS 2/11/11 POST 29* Parts are in! tc76 1991 z28 w/ A/C
they are just some block huggers i'll have to look up the PN i ordered them in december. On that note I will NEVER use Sanderson again, the customer service and how they treat you is awful, and they didn't even refund the extra shipping the charged me by mistake. I'm still dealing with that... i'd rather deal with building my own headers than use them again. and the "no gasket design has me worried to be honest, but i can always convert them to regular flanges if i have to.
as for the down-pipe, its going to go under the headers, i have a good pic of where its going (see below pics).
Todays progress: got the headers on, and set the turbo in the battery location
the header flanges hit the coolant temp sensors on both heads so i had to cut a piece out of each flange:

And then the pass-side collector hit the a/c "dryer" (vertical silver thing):
so i took the brace off of the "dryer":
and used a wrench to twist the "dryer" ever so slightly, giving me the clearance i needed. not having the brace on there doesn't seem like it will be a problem everything is still very stable:
dryer clearance to wheel well:

downpipe location:
woohoo! its coming together ever so slowly!

Nice build! Going to be cool to see what the identicle turbo makes on a gen 1 SBC compared to on a 5.3 LSx engine. Good work, can't wait to see the hot side start coming together.

Same idea I have with flipped sandersson headers but will go for twins when the times come.
Big question is how big DP that will fit and plug clearence?

looking awesome. Looks like it will end up kinda like I did with stock corvette manifolds and ss tubing for the rest.
ideas if you want to use it. If not just say so I'll remove the link

This kit is now in the hands of a diff. boardmember and I swapped to a novi2000 supercharger on a 383 lt1.

FINALS ARE OVER!!!! time to get this build moving again
i do have a question, if i get the car completed and fire it up and put a couple hundred miles on it to make sure everything is OK leak wise, how will that affect the cost and quality of ceramic coating the hotside?

ok got some work done, have about 30% of the crossover tacked up. other than making a custom upper radiator hose it's going to leave everything else pretty much stock. I'm going to try to get up to the shop tonight but i ran/biked 6 miles in a "muddy buddy" triathlon type race so I'm tired.
Tomorrow I'm going to the junk yard to find some idler pulleys, I've got a slick idea I'm going to try to pull off.
