Please Help me identify this supercharger
Hey guys,
My dad recently purchased a supercharger for his 87 Vette, but after seeing how tight the engine compartment was he decided not to install it. We also noticed that the mounting brackets were incorrect. I am considering purchasing it from him because the price is right. I have an 86 Camaro with a 700R4 and 350 TPI engine out of a Vette. I know this is not plug and play but i think I could make it fit if its going to work. Can anyone tell me anything about this supercharger like what it came off of?
Its a Vortech V-1 Serial #043242 Carb OE D-213-9.

It's aftermarket, could have been bought on it's own or in a kit for something... what it fits depends on the brackets you have or can make.

DanSpeed... You can actually call the manufacture and talk to the technical dept. They will be able to give you the complete run-down on that S/C, the maximum compression ratio you can have before adding a S/C, and all the "extras" you will need to get up and running. The "ideal" motor to install a S/C is one with low compression i.e. 8.0 or 8.5-1. The lower the compression, the more boost you will be able to produce, the more power you will be able to gain, the less stress on the motor itself. When you increase the compression, the less boost you will be able to run. (unless the motor was built for that purpose). If I'm not mistaken, factory L98's came with 9.5 or 10-1 compression. It's also recommended that the internal engine components (crank, rods, pistons) be forged to better withstand the stresses of the increased pressure. I believe your motor has cast components. I'm not saying it can't be done... just saying if it's not done right, you might end up with more pieces than you started with.

Re: Please Help me identify this supercharger
Called the manufacturer about the supercharger, and they tell me its 11-14 years old and they know nothing about it. I can bolt it up to the engine no problem.... making brackets to fit is is not difficult. i just wish I knew more about the unit, pulley, how much boost it produces, and what cube motor its rated for.
Thanks,
DG
