90 Formula LS1/4l60e single t70 turbo build

Hello gents, I am new to the turbo world. It started out being a journay with my younger bros wrx turbo 2.0. He blew it up and I rebuilt it from ground up, new forged rods eagle, new froged cp pistons, and tons of other stuff. botted 14.5 psi and the thing was fast as hell! That is what got me started in on the turbo world. I started thinking i could turbo my car and get tons of power that would allow good gas milage. so here is the plan custom built headers, t70 single turbo boost bout 6 to 8 psi and be happy with that. until i build a 6.0 motor.ill be using silicone from siliconeintake.com, so i am looking for bout 400 horses nothing crazy. a stock ls1 will put down a healthy 300, turbo it and i can see 400 in the distance. 4l60e with a 2500 stall, a walbro 255 will supply that fuel through stock 24 lbs injectors, for now. untill the iron 6.0 build then ill upgrade everything! for now i am doing a low budget turbo build. my wife and i got into a wreck and it has givin us enough money to just play with so i am gonna try this way then go with the 6.0 turbo. for now stock ls1 t70 turbo, 6 to 8 psi and blah blah blah

Sounds like you've got a good plan going. While I kept TPI in my Iroc, we're planning to do a similar setup to your plans for my wife's Monte SS. You won't need anything real fancy in the header/manifold dept so save some $ and don't over-engineer that part of the project.

Truck manifolds...

Otherwise, 400hp out of an LSx would be easier NA...

I don't see the tranny living, seems like they blow up if you look at them funny...

It sounds like a fun project. The 4L60E is nice, but you will have more hours in coding for boost than it took to build the entire turbo setup from scratch. I am still finishing up some of my code now. The problem is that the code uses line pressure vs. TPS (not MAP), and the problem with a 700R4 is it uses TPS (throttle position) also. Low TPS and high MAP make for smoked clutches and band. I would also put a kit like probuilt sells in the trans to give it a chance at lasting for a while.
With low expectations like that, you could start with a 5.3 engine or just stick a turbo on what you have now.

There is one option for a MAP based line pressure in a 4L60e controller... the Microsquirt with Megashift V2 code in it. If you have a Megasquirt running your engine, it will piggy back through the CAN connector. If not, you can feed a 0-5v MAP sensor to it and this input becomes the load factor instead of the usual TPS based load of most other controllers. Of course you also have to send it a TPS signal as well for downshifts. I believe this can be shared with another ECM directly off of the TPS sensor.

Truck manifolds will work. But you'll have to cut the flanges off and weld v-bands. I'm using the passengerside one on my driverside, and Have the driverside that will go on the passengerside that I'm not going to use with v-band allready welded on. Just hit me up if you need it. I'm building a custome manifold so I can run a/c on the car (which is a hard task to do).
