645 hp/656 ft lbs vortech carb enclosure

My v-1 made 645hp 656 ft lbs but ran out of belt at 5300 rpm. Should have made 700, had to abort pulls. 383 stroker, chromoly crank, je pistons, manley rods, trick flow heads and a vortech carb enclosure. the six rib pulley just didnt cut it. anyone witha 8 rib or cogs for sale?

Definitely hit me up about e-town. We're setting up a track rental over at Atco Raceway in the coming months, with lots of Grand Nationals, T-Types and TTA's, and it'd be cool to have another blown 3rd gen w/SBC running with me there, cuz those V6's are no joke....

Re: 645 hp/656 ft lbs vortech carb enclosure

turbos are nice.. no parastatic loss.. my motor would make over 800 without the drive loss of the blower. but 650-700 is nice and superchargers sound much better! keep me posted.. pm or better yet email me. fall would probably be best for me. and yes those v-6's are stout

Re: 645 hp/656 ft lbs vortech carb enclosure

Nice numbers Justin. Glad to see you finally got it running.

Try ASP Racing. http://www.aspracing.com/index.html

They made a 1pc custom crank pully, 7.5" 8rib blower with 6rib underdive accy. way back in the day.

I am battling the same issue you have. The 8rib helps but way too much flex in the stock steel bracket. The more you tighten the belt the more the bracket flexes and the belt walks off.

I am currently adding more support by removing the stock manual tensioner and bolting a .250" thick AL plate in its place across to the bolts that screw in to the head. Need to make alot of spacers. Also am trying support bar from exhaust manifold bolt to back of cast bracket.

I have an automatic spring tensioner, that bolts to the plate and tensions the top side of the belt instead of the bottom. Might add another fixed pully for more belt wrap.

Let you know how it works when its all done.

Sorry for the hijack.

Hey george. Long time. Yeah I'll check out those pulleys. Thanks for the info. You ever dyno yours? The long tubes and 4" seems to flow nice. I just put tHat on.

This post makes me very happy as I am in the process of installing the V3 version of that compressor. Congrats on the numbers I hope I can muster something close.

Thanks. Yeah I am still very happy with it. How did you make out with your v3 setup?

Re: 645 hp/656 ft lbs vortech carb enclosure

was going really good.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/powe...post-here.html

Until this happened. Random 65 dollar part failure ended my engine block

Car was running great! Making about 5psi at 6200 RPM. I have 305s on the back and I could break them loose at will up to 50mph. Only had it up for about 2 weeks when this happened. So no dyno trips or anything. Was scheduled to go to the strip this weekend.

Part of the cam ended up lodged in the block, and I had to take the lifter out with a pry bar. So it all has to come out. To say I am dissapointed is an understatement.

Crap. Looks like you have my type of luck. Mine is still together but stuff like that usually happens to me.

How did you fit 305s. Rim size, pics. etc?

Keep me posted on progress. 5lbs sounds like you had great flow.

Re: 645 hp/656 ft lbs vortech carb enclosure

Man that is terrible!! Out of curiosity, what is the history and brand of those lifters?

Hope you get it all back together soon. How are the prospects for 400 blocks these days?

Re: 645 hp/656 ft lbs vortech carb enclosure

The rims are Drift Rs from ROH. Currently the tires are Sumitomos HTZIIIs I would like to step up to a 40 or 45 series in Nittos.

I have found several 400 blocks suprisingly, but I am kind of jaded on the retrofit rollers now. I have been tossing around either a simple 383 in an OEM roller block or 427 in a dart SHP block. To get away from the retro lifters. The lifters you see here were Comp Cams, purchased new by me for this engine build. They have probably have 10 thousand miles on them max. Two power tours, some street time, a couple auto crosses, and a track day. I woould think they should do better than that.
