Picking up a ProCharger
Picking up a ProCharger
I have an opportunity to pick up a fresh rebuilt P1SC with some extras. Most of the extras won't be useful to me since they came off a vortec sbc truck, but I figure the price tag is less than I can find a used head unit for.
The biggest thing I can think of right now will be the bracket. I only run an alt and the water pump on my GTA, so the driver's side is wide open, with no serpentine brackets or anything.
Is there a decently priced bracket for a setup like this? I'm a machinist, so making something is not out of the question, but I still need some inspiration (read: reverse engineering). Do the race type brackets anchor only off the 3 holes in the head? or is there some anchor point to the block?

Is this going on your 11.1 383? That may not be the best idea.
Oh and do some streches b4 you pick up the blower because they are semi heavy. Don't wana pull a hammy....

10-4.
Re: Picking up a ProCharger
Actually I'm not sure how well it will work. I don't know anything about the math related to prochargers, and adding corn to the mix makes it a little more complex to estimate what kinda power it'll put down. I'm not expecting too much boost out if it, but it will get me started in FI at least.

P1SC produces plenty of boost.
I paid $1500 complete for my P1SC kit for a thirdgen, COMPLETE. To give you a price reference.
I'd run no more than around 9.8:1 on pump gas (93), maybe a little more with e85.

The compression will not be changing. You think the P1SC will push plenty of boost even with the amount of air my 383 can move? My 1/4 mile times say 380hp to the wheels and there's still plenty to be gained with gears and stall. I think the 'Burban this kit was on made about 450 to the wheels.
And yes, the price is good

I have a P1SC on my 412" SBC, afr 210 heads. On a small 383 it should work just fine too.

Re: Picking up a ProCharger

Have you considered dropping the compression with thicker head gaskets or bigger chambers? Would be fairly easy at this point. Im going the same route very soon, but am considering dropping the comp abit, and running a meth setup.
There was a member here making universal brackets, did you do a search in this forum?
Looking forward to progress, will be a lot of fun!

Re: Picking up a ProCharger
All in all, I think my compression is about right for ethanol, still maybe a little high, but I think it's comparable to putting a blower on a 9:1 pump gas motor. I'll keep my eyes open for a set of 72cc heads, but I'm not too fond of the idea of using thicker gaskets.
I've seen a couple threads for making custom plates, but none for my particular setup, since my accessory setup is kinda unique for a third gen.

I was referring to a meth/water injection system, you don't think that would help your setup? I suppose you can try without and see how much it can take.
What gasket do you have now? Best to change it out if its a standard type anyway, just another consideration.
I wouldn't worry about using a good quality thicker gasket, they are made for that purpose, in saying.... another issue with a thicker gasket can be your quench being thrown off. Lots to consider, so just tossing some ideas around since i will be dealing with mostly the same issues!

I'm pretty **** about my quench height lol. I'm just using fel-pro 1003(?) head gaskets, and I don't expect to have to change them. Depending on how they look of course.
I don't know if there's an advantage to using water/meth with e85, since it burns so cool anyway. That's another point I'll have to research.
Im currently running AFR 195's in 65cc
