Hi Iam new to this and have money set aside to do this to my old girl 87 305 5 speed my question is what turbo is the best to buy to run stock internals and easier to switch on a 350 if I blow it up and also I heard l31 Vortec heads will lower my compression ratio and flow better will a turbo need to boost like 20 pounds on a 8.1 ratio? And this is a single turbo build I need the size of it I have a mig welder and can fab up my own turbo feed pipes

 

Also curios if there's a turbo cam the would help and what kind of electronic tuning equipment would I need to buy

my sig has all my mods in it . the ebl flash replaces the stock cmputer. you hook a laptop to it an use tuner pro an tune yourself . rbob has great custmer service an there are numerous threads on this subjects . i'm only gonna run 8-10 lbs. of boost . i'm hoping for 400 whp .

 

You need to balance your build a little more properly. Ask yourself where you want your RPM range to be, then it will be easier to pinpoint the ideal camshaft for your particular build. So long as you keep things on the cool side, the stock cast parts in your engine will handle the power, but only so much though until the cast will grenade. Have seen over 600-RWHP cast parts in a Grand National that lasted season after season with more passes than I could remember, it comes down to tuning...

The heads don't really matter. I can show you a set of stock and untouched LC2 heads with tiny little valves that propelled a 3500 pound car into the nines with boost, so your stock 305 heads will do fine for your cast 305 setup. You might even want to use regular head gaskets, for added insurance of course, so that the gasket essentially goes and alleviates the pressure under any possible detonation before the rods get impacted...

Cute, but why would that be too hard to believe? It takes 700-RWHP for a 3500 hundred pound car to break into the nines, and when running a 212 roller with stock LC2 heads in conjunction with a T76 turbo with upwards of 30 pounds of boost pressure, 700-RWHP is nothing. I can also show you a cammed LC2 running a tiny TA49 turbo running a 10.98 in the 1/4...

im running 8lbs of boost on a 4.3 c1500 w/200,000 miles on it lol tuning with ebl flash right now on stock internals . if it blows it'll give me n excuse slap 350-383 on it
