Turbo Timing

Just curious on what everyone does for timing before i start cranking in the boost. At the moment i have just a plain old hei Dizzy and im assuming the vac advance isnt going to help me so what should i get instead? Have had a few people say just to get the MSD BTM and call it quits but like I said id like to see what everyone else says as well. Plan is 10-15 psi on a 355 running the professional products Power injection system.

need to know:
1. turbocharger size
2. engine compression ratio
3. engine material (aluminum/iron head/block)
4. tuning experience
5. vehicle weight
6. EGT sensor location / wideband sensor location
7. intercooler design, plumbing length/path
8. Fuel injection type: mpfi/tbi/sequential

Re: Turbo Timing

turbos will be 57mm t3/4 hybrids comp will be right around 8:5:1. iron block iron heads. As far as tuning the the professional products system. Not very much on this system. Its a self learning Tbi system and once you get the basic fuel curve you can play with it. Wideband is maybe a foot off on one of the turbos or directly after y pipe depends on how i run my exhaust. As the plan sits turbos by the bat. boxes and piping directly routed through the metal there and to the intercooler. Once i find one.

Re: Turbo Timing

ebay turbos i take it ?
sounds very similiar to the 355 tt engine in my iroc
355 shortblock with ported 882 heads and tpi system 9.2-1 cr
21* total timing from 5-12 psi
20* total from 13-16 psi
19* total from 17-19 psi
18* total from 20-23 psi

engine lives on (91) pump gas with a larger intercooler just fine

Re: Turbo Timing

Sounds like fueling only and no spark control. Would need a boost referenced spark retard system then

Re: Turbo Timing

I ran a mallory 685 ignition box on my car and its for sale lol. It has boost referenced timing retard, set to pull whatever degs of timing per psi boost you want. Also has loads of other features like rev limiters window switches and other timing retard functions

I havent used the boost timing but did use every other feature for nitrous controlls

Re: Turbo Timing

Out of the two what would be better? As far as the 6al 2 looks good just would need to get my timing right the first few times around or detonation could be a problem

im not familiar with the mallory box but the msd u program the entire timing curve into it

if the mallory is the same thing and not just a boost retard then its upto u because both are good brands
