Twins to single
So after some thought i think i may be going to a single turbo instead of the twins that i currently have. I feel that it will compliment my motor a bit better being that it is only a mildly built 355. Plus without much effort it'll fit under my hood unlike the current setup ( similar to Orr's old setup) I'm only really wanting to get 10-15 psi on top of it so a single should be plenty enough and I will have a whole other set of back up parts

Re: Twins to single
Doesnt matter for performance, single vs twins because you can size either for your goals
But packaging and budget is the main concern. A good T4 single can fit easily and be cheaper overall. Half the turbos half the piping half the wastegates.
Twins can sometimes be best for tighter engine bays as you can run 2 tiny twins to make same flow as a larger single.
So depends where you wanna mount things and how much power. 10-15 pai can be 400 hp or 1000 depending on setup and greatly changes turbo size lol

Re: Twins to single
Haha I was just looking on how id mount the driver side turbo, seems to be a nightmare in comparison to just throwing in a crossover pipe and making it a single. That way id have extra oil lines wastegate ect. I would also like to actually have a hood/ not have holes cut out of a hood to fit lol

Re: Twins to single
Other way for twins is put them in or around the battery tray areas behind headlights. Gotta delete charcoal canister and do some fancy plumbing but can work.
My old setup sat high but with some rework and careful placement you could do similar and keep them under hood

Thats what the plan was but seems as though most the the ideas i had run into the upper rad hose and the angle for my oil line was off and i would worry about how the drain would be affected

Yup can be an issue. Its why i went with a scavenge pump but not the ideal way

Re: Twins to single
the only down side is is the ds turbo has no room for an air filter to go directly on the turbo housing , but a 90* coupler will allow an air filter

Re: Twins to single
I haven't started getting into turbo charging in detail but what about lag? It would seem like two small turbos would spool up faster than a large single and so be better for say auto-x while a large single may be simpler/cheaper and be more suited to road track. Fitment etc. aside. ?????

Re: Twins to single
Nope, all depends on how you match up the turbine wheel to engine components. You can have a fast spooling single or a slow spooling set of twins like i had last year

Re: Twins to single
on a a mild 355 id use a set of t3/t4 hybrids like i have on mine
stage 3 turbine wheels with an ar of .8x, if the engine has tpi intake on it like mine go with stage 3 wheels and .63 housings , it will spool lightning fast

Re: Twins to single
Thats what i have, the ebay ones. As far as the headers go, I no longer have the capabilities of getting them done. I can get the crossover piping and the simple movement /extra pipe to move to the battery trays but thats about it. I left the place that welded everything up and i'm still not happy with it. I think I should mention that my main goal (now that i know what i'm doing for the most part) is to collect some ls parts 5.3 or w.e and probably single turbo that.

Re: Twins to single
Nice. Thanks Orr. I think I'm going to run things as is this season. I canged a few things from last year. ( already need to make a new downpipe on dricers side.. stupid tall valve covers lol) I should have enough room in the back of the header. I dont think even ovaling the pipe I have will fit between #6 and #8 primaries. Heck might just keep the twins and play around with exhaust/oil line routing. Just dump the exaust out by the battery tray / inner fender haha
