As am I. You mentioned a GTR? OMG...that's a change from one extreme to another...lol. Any particular year or plans?
Or are you planning a old school R32 which is now legal in the US?

For the money, I would go new Stingray and add a supercharger...

Re: ZZ3 Turbo Iroc - Round Three
I work with a CTS-V owner and he has had some work done to his car, and I believe his warranty is still intact. He had some rear end issues that the dealer fixed under warranty, but the car put down 660 to the wheels and the tuner built the tune a little more conservative and it still put down 640. I will try to talk to him tomorrow and get some details for you.

Most everything is heavy these days lol
All else fails a simple cheap 5.3-6.0 swap and a s475-480 turbo will do everything you could want

Yes he said he will do whatever to make it right with me.
Turbo is on. I'm borrowing a ball bearing 'STS' 76mm turbo that I might end up buying if it works good. It's a 2.5" compressor outlet so a direct replacement to my 67mm. Also has a polished housing so looks great with my polished TPI setup.
Waiting on a power steering pump due in the morning so the AC compressor can go back on. He was swapping the fuel pump this evening when I left. Hopefully will get it home tomorrow afternoon. Shall see.
Even if it still leans out I will probably take it to the track next week to see how it will 60 foot with the PTC 2800 converter back in place.

There is something interesting.....have you ever looked at your voltage when your afr was going lean? If that alt was going south and not giving the pump the power it needed, that would explain quite a bit.

Hot Rod magazine had a really in-depth article on fuel heating and the problems it causes with some pretty interesting observations. Might want to look into that if nothing else than the read.....some pretty obvious things but others not so much.

Low voltage can cause breakup. Im pretty sure I remember my car doing that when I had a bad alternator and was just running off the battery. Im purely talking about the ignition problem.
How did you eliminate a fuel temperature issue?

i dont put alot of faith in the **** timing guns, either. i have one as well and i never have a real good feeling when setting timing.
might not be a bad idea to borrow a non-adjustable gun to double check your gun.

Make sure of rotor and reluctor wheel phasing.
If its off it can cause limited or no timing control and ignition breakup
Did the plugs get swapped out? Check plug gaps

Bm just saw plugs were reaped to .030. Take them back down to .025-.028
I don't know if ur using an msd box but the factory hei will cut out on boost with gaps larger then .028 9 out of 10 times

Re: ZZ3 Turbo Iroc - Round Three
The alternator autopsy reveals the problem is exactly the same thing that got me on the first replacement alternator in 2009. It had (HAD) a plastic cooling fan internally. It exploded. This happened on the first one and when I got the replacement I went through their stock and made sure it had a metal fan. So the new one did not and it exploded at 5200 crank rpm. I think it is more a factor of acceleration than sustained rpm. And to make it really suck, NO ONE stocks these except O'Rielly now and they only keep one I guess. So of the new one coming in on Tuesday has a plastic fan, the same thing will happen almost positively.
Checked the distributor, reluctor and rotor today. Everything looks good, tight, etc. Positioning looks good of the rotor relative to the cap. I did find one thing that could be a factor, though somewhat doubtful... the braided oil feed line that goes to the turbo ran right across the back of the distributor right at the bottom edge of the plug wire boots. All of the boots we new and in good condition so I'm not sure it could have leaked out, but that line was under the distributor before. I relocated it but was unable to test with no alternator.

Cool! Glad to hear something besides bad news for once. I bet it's nice to not be reporting for once too! That's interesting about the different spooling between the turbos. I wouldn't expect there to be much sound difference either. Weird. I don't even know what you are running for ignition. Are you firing the stock TPI coil with the Megasquirt? And what do you have your plugs gapped at?
Edit- haha I neglected to look up a few posts. Bingo, all my answers! I watched your youtube video and thought I was finally up to speed. Oh well.
By the way I loved the Hitler videos! I shared them with a couple of my car friends and we were laughing pretty good.

Hey Steve,
You think if you got it running perfect, you might keep it? I know you have mentioned selling it, but what you want and what it would sell for may not match up from what you said. Usually when I have a car I am going to trade in, I fix all those little issues Ive been putting off and once its done....I usually have second thoughts.
Point is. You get it running right.....it performs at or above your expectations...you think you might keep it? Or is it really at this point - no matter - just time?

Re: ZZ3 Turbo Iroc - Round Three
Finally washed it tonight after about two months. Cleans up nice. Drove it around quite a bit this evening and so far no definitely signs of fueling issues. Just a bit ago on the last few minutes of driving tonight, I thought it was looking a touch leaner in boost, but a few minutes later I did another second gear blast and it was in the mid 11's. It's a bit leaner tonight overall because of some tuning I did last night. I need to go over my datalogs and add a touch more fuel in a few spots.
Loving it right now... almost like a reward for the punishment I've dealt with for the past month. It really is a great street setup right now, but I need to get it down the strip to see where the mph is. It feels like it is real close to that magic 100 now, if it will pull through all three gears like it was in 1st and 2nd tonight.
This is the video from last night... starts at the driving action part. Not much to see here but shows a little of how quick it comes into boost.

if u still have fueling issues please for the sake of the care borrow a set of other injectors from someone else and give them a go, it is the only thing in the fuel system u have not played with

Yeah exhaust can make a difference. Thats why i am about to start on my car again and do a giant sewer pipe
Re: ZZ3 Turbo Iroc - Round Three
anxious to see how it 60's and the difference to the 330' as opposed to the other converter/setup.... should roll out! it would be nice if the fuel would co-operate.
