Boost EVAC crankcase setups

What are y'all running for boosted setups? At the moment, I'm running a breather on the rear of the passenger side valve cover and then one tube on the front of each cover to a breather tank vented to air. I know there is a better way and probably need to evac it back into the engine might be better as well.

Let me know or see what y'all got!

Filtered breather on the passenger side and stock PCV setup to the intake manifold.

Re: Boost EVAC crankcase setups

Lines from each cover into a ventilated catch can. If i find a strong enough check valve i will go back to a pcv valve setup. Stock valves are a joke

Re: Boost EVAC crankcase setups

I have a billet specialties breather on the passenger side and billet specialties breather with a built in PVC valve on the drivers side that is plumbed back to the intake manifold. Haven't had any issues so far, works great!

Where did you get your elbow that goes into the carb hat? What diameter is the pipe? How long are the straight runs? Thanks.

Re: Boost EVAC crankcase setups

Looks like we are all running about the same setup. Just wondering if there is a better way or is what we got about the best way to do it without a vacuum pump.

Re: Boost EVAC crankcase setups

Well I think a PCV is the best but the key for a boosted build is to prevent backflow from the intake pressure. Thats why I need to find a checkvalve that can handle 25psi which will be my limit I think Only other way to overcome that is to run the vacuum line to the suction side of the compressor. I dont know how much suction/vacuum is applied on that side of things and to be honest, if there is alot of vacuum there, then your filter is a restriction and needs changed. Plus you'd need a air/oil separator to keep oil out of your compressor wheel.

So I'll be looking for a good checkvalve that can stay shut at 25 psi and open easily with fairly low vacuum from my big cam.

But the vented covers and catch cans work fine. I rarely see much fluid in the can, and its mainly just condensation. Just change your oil more often as the crankcase fumes that do not get extracted will deteriorate the oil over time.

Got it from silicone intakes.com I think. Pipe is 3" got that from eBay and tabbed it all together

Re: Boost EVAC crankcase setups

I run a 7.3 ford mechanical vacuum pump pulling from one valve cover and an open breather in the other valve cover. Had it working for about a month so far been working great. Had some issues using oil through the pcv even with a catch can. Also for reference, gm# 20861501 check valve I use can hold around 30 psi. Most dealers have it and its fairly cheap too, under 10 bucks. Stumbled upon it in ls1tech.

Re: Boost EVAC crankcase setups

I just have a PCV valve in each valve cover with the hoses vented to atmosphere at this point. I will eventually route them to a catch can, but for now they don't make too much of a mess

Re: Boost EVAC crankcase setups

I'm going to give that check valve a go too, looks like it would work. I know the stock PVC valve leaks a bit under boost but I never had a problem with that setup over the last 9 years.

Re: Boost EVAC crankcase setups

Ive got passenger side with a breather and a pcv with a hose that goes into the intake piping before the throttle body. I have a feeling thats wrong for boosted setups (it does have a check valve, but still). I noticed some blowby coming out the breather..should I look for a catchcan setup or vacuum pump?

The PCV valve should be hooked up to the intake manifold where it will get vacuum in a normal system. Basically the pcv is a metered vacuum leak.
