What is everyone getting for exhaust temps? I have a heat gun and see 550 to 600 at idle (shooting each header pipe)...is this normal? I've been trying to get the car to run cooler and see those exhaust temps makes me think I've got a carb issue possibly. On the flip side, I have a FAST air/fuel raito gauge and have readings of 13.0 to 13.5 at idle. The plugs look a fat, but I dont want to run on the lean side either.
Also going down the highway at 55 (turning 2800 rpm) my engine oil will get up to 245! What does everyone else see for oil temps? I'm thinking of getting a oil cooler even tho the engine builder thinks 225 to 235 is a good area or range for the oil temp. Keep in mind my motor is a fresh rebuild that only has 40 miles on the break in oil.

Thanks for the reply, talked to my carb guy and he said 600 to 700 is normal range. Just want to make sure I'm not missing something.

Those head gun readings need to be taken with a grain of salt, not always most accurate and readings can vary from pipe surface to pipe surface. Its not a true indicator of egt's out of the chamber. I've seen 1200-1300 deg egt's at idle on some motors, but header pipe temp is much cooler. That said, i see closer to 600-700 on long drives. I have played alot with the tune in the past tryin to find cooler operation and not had much success
Oil cooler is nice. 245 is getting warm for oil. Still alright but warm. I think 180-220 would be ideal

Re: Procharger guys...High Exhaust Temps??? Engine Oil Temps???
Agreed on the header temps- normal. When my car was N/A, without an oil cooler it would typically run 20-30 degrees higher than the water temp. For example cruising down the highway water temp would be at 180 and oil would be around 200-210. If I beat on it for even a few seconds (highway pulls) I could literally watch the oil temp increase 10 degrees in like 30 seconds. I ran on a dyno once and the engine oil hit 250 pretty easily.
Now with my oil cooler with a 180 T-stat it runs at 180 (with my turbo) unless I'm beating on it or air temp is over 70, and then it will run maybe as high as 220 but that's about as high as it gets.
